Hi,
Can someone tell whether the calls are actually free in Jio?
And what type of calls are they? Is data consumed for such calls?

Some say that data is used for calls, some say not.

(Example article:
All Plans carry free unlimited True voice calling and they will NOT use your quota of data offered.
Many people were of the opinion that data consumed on calls will be deducted from your mobile data quota, but that is not the case.

Is that true?

so what happens on 29th day.
you won't be able to make any call or you will be charged for voice call?

You are supposed to charge your account with top up.
Else if you have balance, base tariff would apply.
Incoming would come through till validity,.

Others,correct if wrong

You are correct. Say you subscribe 149 plan, it will be active for 28 days, no charges for those days. After that if you dont resubscribe, it'll be base tarrif at 2p per second.

I hate that they dont have a FUP scheme so there is no overcharge for data usage, 28 days - no way to track in android

On topic, they have clarified that the calls for voice will not be counted towards data charges.

Next, we will could see proxies being setup on these voice servers/IP segment so that billing does not count towards usage :P

These calls are VoLTE calls and they're packet data, just like VoIP. The data used by a VoLTE call on Jio will NOT be charged against your data balance.

However, if your LTE handset does not support VoLTE, like far too many handsets currently available, you will have to use the Jio join app to make calls, and this WILL be charged from your data balance.

Okay.

By LTE, do you mean 4g handsets? Or are both different?

Got it.

What is LTE?

LTE stands for Long Term Evolution, and isn’t as much a technology as it is the path followed to achieve 4G speeds. As it stands, most of the time when your phone displays the “4G” symbol in the upper right corner, it doesn’t really mean it. When the ITU-R set the minimum speeds for 4G, they were a bit unreachable, despite the amount of money tech manufacturers put into achieving them. In response, the regulating body decided that LTE, the name given to the technology used in pursuit of those standards, could be labeled as 4G if it provided a substantial improvement over the 3G technology.

Immediately networks began advertising their connections as 4G LTE, a marketing technique that allowed them to claim next-gen connectivity without having to reach the actual required number first; it would be like the U.S. claiming they had landed on the moon because they got pretty close and the spaceship that got them there was a lot better than the previous ship. It’s not entirely trickery though, despite inconsistent speeds depending on location and network, the difference between 3G and 4G is immediately noticeable.

Just that 90% times you might hear when you call a number, "all lines in this route are busy". However that is as far as free calling could go (thought BSNL was exception).

Do u know why you get ALL LINES IN THIS ROUTE ARE BUSY ?

Just to update u it has nothing to do with free calling.

^ If the number I am calling is busy, sometimes i get the same message. Of course, Vodafone still gives me the same message all the time.

Technically hspa plus above 14.4mbps speed also shows as 4g.
Att did this trick when it could not match Verizon Lte
Hspa+ rather cheekily shows up as 4g only on American carrier branded phones mostly . In india all phones correctly display 3g , 3.5g and 4g with correct markings ( hsdpa , hsdpa+ then 4g or lte). [emoji1]

^ Thats because they allowed the terminology to be watered down, when it should not have. When I had my Pantech Burst and was on my way to Pune with Tata Docomo - some 3 years back, it used to show 4G :p

What is meant by that? What are you referring to?
I am referring that Jio's network is utter shite. Didn't want to say it directly, cause I thought it would be understood anyway, but now I made it simple.
And no, that message is said when caller's line is NOT busy. I tried calling my own numbers from Jio, same message was said like a dozen times, ROFL.

I couldn't care less whatever Data speed Jio is giving, am I not utilising it? Hell yeah! Why not? I got the SIM for free. But if I had to pay say ₹10 for it I would not have. Before experiencing Jio I thought BSNL's mobile network was the worst, but no, it was nowhere near the worst.

So u think it's coz of Jio network you are not able to call failtel, didea ? So to answer it NO ITS NOT JIO FAULT.

Also did u even heard the message when u make a call to other Network.

It say Is ROUTE ki sabhi line wayast hai and not the number u had called busy. There is difference between the 2.

Read this and u will understand it better.

LOL. Were you sleeping this whole time when the interconnect issue got bumped up to the PMO's office!

To illustrate the same point, I did the same experiment with my boss - called from Jio - line busy. called from airtel - ring. Called jio to jio no issue. Told him that failtel and 'la*dafone' and other operators wanted to mess with Jio, so were not giving interconnect.
