Bytes Transferred: 204800 bytes
Download time: 17.519 seconds
Throughput: 93.5 Kilobits per second (kbps)
= 11.6 Kilobytes per second (kBps)

This is on a sify 48kbps connection :thumb:
 
best way is to, download, banwdith meter, then try to download something like, norton update, or service pack 2, and you can know your speed

With Reliance India Mobile, i get anywhere between 25-75kbps

Darthcoder's 900KBPS is 7MBps +, wow....u sure that's a KB Darthy and not a kb?
 
eh TRAI will come to know how lame our speeds in India are compared to abroad..

I have a 512/512 DSL line which is the fastest I could find in Pune. I want 10mbps :(

dude correct ur own unit i not like it.

1 MegaBytes per second(MBps) ~ 8 Megabit per second (Mbps)

1 Megabit per second(Mbps) ~ 128 KiloBytesps (KBps) ~ 1000 Kilobitps(Kbps)
900 KBps ~ 7 Mbitps ~ 0.8 MBytesps
 
All of you guys doing the conversions are doing it inaccurate / wrong way. in real life scenario the "Throughput" is not 8 bit = 1 byte of data.
due to the asynchronous nature of tramsmission there are additional bits added after every 8 bit of data. the start bit and the stop bit.
hence 10bit = 1 byte is a more rational figure (infact it is more)

for e.g. 1000bits of data transmitted to your m/c does not equal 1000/8 bytes of data. it is less than that. infact 1000/10 = 100 bytes (the effective or usable data) would be an ok figure.

hence it would be better to divide kbps with 10 (rather than 8) to get "REAL" kBps values.

for e.g. 64 kbps = 6.4 kBps , 256 kbps = 25.6 kBps etc....

once again i remind you what ur doing is right in theory. 8 bit = 1 byte. but for all "practical" purposes the effective internet throughput is 10bit (approx) = 1 byte.
 
ya i know it. but i see on many forums noobs don't understand the difference between Kbps and KBps. such a pain this all is. i hate it when noobs keep posting wrong units. it looks all comedy they shouting wow i get 30 kbps !!(they actually want to say 30KBps) fast internet blah blah lol . :S :tongue:

that "b" and "B" are so different damn it !

well Airtel, it seems is doing it like this.
1024 bits = 1 kilobit (just like 1024kB= 1 megabyte in memory storage)
and dividing the figure by 8 to get kB (kilobyte)

(technically they are right)
but this gives a inflated figure of your actual usable throughput. (due to the nature of data transmission)
if Your download speed : 128707 bps, then most probably your *actual, *effective, data rate in Bytes is around 12.8 kBps or less.
* actual , effective = the usable data or the data which can be used by your os.
 
I get 7.5- 8 KB ps on my 64 kbps Hathway connection.
Am not too sure but I'm guessing that when one is trying to view a webpage, tcp does a parity check on the datagrams/packets...therefore say a 80 kiloBYTE page won't load in 10 seconds but more....
hwever while d/l ing a 800KB file, the same woul actually download in ~100 seconds......nott too sure what the logic behind this is...will google this in the day an post

and @unix.....all of us are noobs in one way or the other.....coz no one can be omniscient, so it gives me the creeps when some1 adopts a holier-than-thou condescending attitude
