Hi

I am using X4 635 with Gigabyte 785 GMT USH mobo. I am using this PC for the last 8 months and I had to change the CMOS battery 4 times in these 8 months.

Pls tell what could be the possible problem as why the CMOS battery goes off so soon?

regards

^ LOL 4 times in 8 months, its like one CMOS battery is providing backup for 2 months

I haven't change mine yet, may be 2+ years ... something might be wrong with the CMOS battery holder, or may be your mobo is acting funny :)

So, pls tell what should I do & where could be the problem? If it is mobo, Should I take the mobo for repair & pls tell how much time will be taken in repair?

The mobo is in warranty.

Regards

Yes it pretty worrying scenario here. Its under warranty so take it to the service ctr and give tell the shocking experience about the battery. They will rectify, repair or best replace the board.

My mobo acts unusual like a robot: If i wont power on my system for more than 5-7 days and thereafter when i do so, the bios messages flashes that all default checksums loaded and press F2 to load default setups and bla bla bla... i again have to set the time date and config settings and then it works again nicely unless i wont give it a full stop of another loooong days. :D

Did you get all your batteries from the same place ?

Bad set of batteries, probably ?

I haven't changed mine since 4.5+ years !

Exactly the case with my el-cheapo MSI board housing my 2nd rig with an Athlon X2. The battery lasts for 30-45 days. But then again, a CR2032 costs 5 bucks each if bought in a 10 pcs strip, so i really don't bother too much. However, initially, i had tried flashing the BIOS, re-seating the battery, checking the battery holder for improper contact, etc. Nothing worked. So, if you are think that spending 5 bucks once every 2 months is more of a hassle than going through a RMA process in our country then, surely go ahead with the later.

Edit: The board had this issue from the very beginning but otherwise its doing its duty well for almost 3 years now. Yes, it has consumed a 100 bucks worth of CR2032 batteries, but that's much less than the amount of gasoline needed for a single trip to the A.S.S.

I don't hv a problem going to A.S.S. as it is in Nehru Place, but can anybody tell how much time they usually take to fix the mbo?

Regards

There might be some circuitry problem with the problem, which might be draining more power from the CMOS battery, or there can be some shot-circuit type thing.

Not sure with this, better take it to the service center for inspection.

Before that, you can try a different battery from a different shop. Also can you check the voltage of the current battery. We can know if its completely drained out, or something else.
