I am not able to start up CMR 2005.

I have the ORIGINAL DVD. This is the error message I get.

There are no viruses, spyware or anything on my comp.

What else can I do??

that error does not signify a virus, just that some reg entry or driver has been damaged or deleted, all i can i say is reinstall the game, that starforce protection is pretty pesky.

Reinstalled it abt a dozen times till now and I am NOT exaggerating.... Nothing seems to work. I have mailed Codemasters.

But please keep giving me suggestions.... I will try one after the other..

^^ Get the No CD patch.....if its legal...i guess it must be, coz u own a legal copy....

search the *ahem* areas :P if not, i'll give ya tomorrow..i have to find where i burnt it...

have you tried playing with the antivirus disabled ? try that

sounds more like a star force protection issue to me ...

see what codemasters tell you .

nikhil, as you have the original dvd, & dont seem to be getting help from codemasters, try this, ofcourse legal :)

uninstall cmr2005, clean your reg entries etc, use starforce cleaner(removes any traces of starforce from your system), reboot, reinstall the game.

just remember any other game using starforce protection might have to be reinstalled.

here's the link for starforce cleaner
http://cdmediaworld.com/cgi-bin/dl.cgi?f=StarforceClean!rar

for all this i am assuming a case of broken drivers or links :)

@dipdude....

that was what I did first... on Blade's recommendation... no use :( Thanks for the help though.

When I uninstall, then run Starforce Removal Tool and then reboot, reinstall and finally run the game again, it says that protection driver installation is done and it needs to reboot. I reboot and then again when i try to run the game, the same thing happens :( :(

Keep the suggestions coming....

Use CCleaner and scan using MS Anti-Spyware, Spybot, etc....

If nothing works, back-up your files and reinstall XP.

Are you sure you have no Viruses AT ALL on your PC?

just check.. check you PM for the no-dvd patch.. ive sent you a link...

Do you have virtual CD/daemon tools installed with some virtual drives visible? In that case remove both of them.

@Chaos --- Nope.... Nothing of that sort.

And this same game worked earlier on my comp. It is now that I am having this problem. I did not play it for a long time(abt 2-3 months) and then when I tried playing yesterdya, this was what I got :(

Hey Goldie,

thanks for the link :)

And I use Norton 2003 Pro edition.

And I dont think I have installed any other software as such. I do not really experiment with different s/w.

I have not yet tried the No-CD patch.... will do so soon....

bleh codemasters, all their games are problematic.
To top it off, it uses an older version of starforce.
The no-cd crack should work after unplugging all ide optical drives.

Going OT but unless you really like the cmr series, try xpand rally for cmr'ish controls (and better eyecandy) and rbr for simulation (although it's not enjoyable without a wheel).
The cmr series just isn't as good as it once was anymore.
