Co-op (Local/Online) Game Suggestion Thread

Level G
Hello.

I have been thinking about creating this thread for a while. I'm creating this thread so that we can share good co-op games and the experiences, ask about recommendation, get co-op partners. Everything co-op gaming.

I'll start by mentioning my all time favourite Co-Op game. Overcooked. I had finished Overcooked 1 and 2 in couch co-op mode. After that Overcooked All You Can Eat was released (which I finished in online co-op mode, I still play it often). I'm sure many of you would have played or heard about this game.

The concept is simple, you and your team (upto 4 players) have to prepare and serve meals. It is simple enough for anyone to grasp and is beyond fun. The levels are simple enough to finish (1 star) so that you don't get stuck but hard enough to get all the stars. The game is all about talking and coordinating with your co-op partner. It gets fun and chaotic at the same time.

The only thing which I don't like about the game is it is not relaxing, you'll always be on your toes fingers, glaring at the screen looking at the dishes and the timer.

So here I'm, finding a replacement for Overcooked that is relaxing.

Recommendation needed:
A online co-op game which is easy to pick up, simple in gameplay, doesn't require too much brain use to play (basically I want to shut down my mind and relax), is fun and relaxing to play. If you know about any such games, your input will be appreciated.

Thankyou.

It takes two is brilliant, I never got to finish the game but it was simple enough for me and my sister to play along, it's a story based type of game that goes through different levels but it doesn't have any sort of ranking or grading system (if I remember correctly) so even if you do die there's no pressure and you just start from the checkpoint again.

Stardew Valley
Great game indeed. I had totally forgotten about it. I have a 20-30 day old world in Stardew Valley with my co-op partner. I'll reinstall the game today, hopefully we can resume the game from there (we both have it on steam). Thanks for the great suggestion.

I used to play Mushroom wars on PS3, it is now available on PC too

just get it, it is cheap at Rs 110
The game looks great, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy this game. Will watch gameplay videos tonight and most likely will buy it before 23rd. Thanks.

How did I even forget about it. The game is amazing. It can easily be played twice as the gameplay elements are different for Cody and May. We already finished the game once, sometime last year. We might play it again with swapped characters. The game was absolute fun. Thanks.

Apart from Stardew Valley as mentioned by @psyph3r, I'd also suggest Terraria and Streets of Rage 4. Streets of Rage 4 has to be my absolute favourite because of how well it plays, the music, and the brilliant graphics. Definitely the gold-standard when it comes to beat-em-ups. River City Girls (the first part) is also a good shout, if you end up liking Streets of Rage 4.

Edit: Forgot to mention about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. I didn't like it because of how short the campaign was (~ 2 hours), but you may end up liking it because of the co-op.

Thanks for your inputs. Will resume Stardew Valley this week.

We tried Terraria but for some reason (I don't remember why) we didn't like it.

We tried some two-three beat em up games (some game from Capcom IIRC, don't remember the names) and concluded that we don't like the genre. Also, not a fan of co-op PvP games.

Looking for calm, mostly non-violent games where the team works towards a common goal.

Gears of war 4 and Gears of war 5 are violent games, but pretty much fun to play. ( This is co-op PVE game ). You can also play single player.

A way out is 2 person split screen game. This is a story based game. You start as 2 characters trying to escape prison.

Left 4 Dead 2: you are team of 4 trying to survive by killing zombies. Game is mad fun with co-op.

The game that I feel is very similar to Overcooked is Moving Out, It unfortunately does not have online co-op and is couch co-op (or solo) only but Moving Out 2 is coming out this year & that is going to have online co-op, worth to add it to the Wishlist. You should definitely check out Moving out in the meantime. I feel like you will really have fun with it.

We started A Way Out but didn't finish, added it to the list, will revisit soon. Thanks.

I played Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons in local co-op mode with a friend. It was really nice experience, the story got very sad towards the second half but still the game was very good.

I will check out Gears 5. It is cheap too (in the current Steam sale).

circa 1997, single or two player, maybe the more recent versions are multi player

This isn't so much cooperating as competing though. You are trying to take the other out or outsmart them

Gameranx is a one-stop solution to your What_to_Play needs . Enjoy.!.

Although I appreciate you replying, I cannot disagree more with the Gameranx article of Best Co-op Games of All Time.

Major chunk of the list contains games that are very recent AAA titles without the primary (or even secondary) focus on co-op gameplay, they just have a co-op mode (hence can be technically called a coop game). A few games in the list are good co-op games but overall this reads like a low effort writing.

There are many fun co-op games from lesser known studios, and indie developer. I'm trying to discover more here.

Nonetheless, I will once again go through the list.

Worms somehow reminded me of the old Bomberman (on the TV video game), the one with 2 player PvP top-down view, where we can plant bombs or throw them towards the other players and trigger them.

Anyone knows any similar game which supports online co-op (other than Konami's Super Bomberman R, which is too costly and has poor reviews).

One more goldmine:

Snow Bros

You will have to install emulator yuzu and get the nintendo version.

One of the best two player - single screen game. If this is your first time playing, you will have a blast.

Wow, the game looks amazing :hearteyes:
Exactly the type of game I was looking for. Thanks a lot.

Is there any way I can make the co-op work via internet? I tried Parsec but wasn't able to connect because my ISP has CG-NAT.

its a local game, originally a arcade game. Nintendo remastered the original with updated graphics for switch. It won't have any internet features, I am just glad that it works with yuzu very well.

There is so much noise these days people often miss these games.

There are some services which can make local games work via internet. Hamachi used to be there back in the old days. Steam Remote Play Together is one of them. There are some other services too, like Parsec. Most of them won't work on my internet connection (CG-NAT). I haven't explored much.

Exactly. Even simple games can be so much fun.

Oh, If you are looking for more old school type, Then play this one.
It's kinda hard but really fun.!.

It's Local Co-op only, but you can use parsec or Steam remote play to play online.

Old school is fine too. CupHead is a fun game but it is anti-relaxing. o_O

Looking for something calm and relaxing.

I tried Parsec but for some reason couldn't connect. It gave error 6023 on both ends.
