I recently played (and finished COD4) both the games. Both are great games but some how, playing GRAW(Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter) seemed much more fun, fulfilling and addictive. I have patched GRAW to version 1.35. The kind of strategy and skill required, makes this game special and different from other shooters. I haven't tried GRAW 2 though.
Please don't get mad if my opinion differs from yours. I just want every FPS lover to try this game. I am playing at Normal difficulty and it's hard enough for me. All the reviews on net refer to version 1.0 which had lots of bugs and glitches. But this game truly rocks for me.

Heh heh. I installed GRAW, played it for exactly 20mins and uninstalled it. I hated the interface and controls for controlling your squad. I thought the management in BIA and SW: Republic Commando was better. I want to try the system in Rainbox Six games though. Supposed to be good.

Same here.I am not so much into tactical squad based shooters & hence GRAW didn't appeal so much to me.COD 4 was an epic.Fast paced & well designed levels & gameplay. The graphics were an added bonus for COD 4.Overall I'd rate COD 4 much higher than any WAR shooter titles out there.:hap2:

You should play it for at least a couple of hours to get a hang of it and start enjoying it. I wonder if all the Tom Clancey games are as good and similar to this one.

well what i feel is that GRAW being tactical has too many ways to reach the goal and but cod4 is to be done in a single way! .... but still the fun factor is more in cod4 coz there were a few times when i had to start the goal all over again in GRAW and GRAW2 ( and sometimes due to the lone buggy AI shooting me through the WALL when i had already killed the rest :@ ) both the games hav gud gfx..no doubt about that ....but still i would go for cod4 being the better one! ..unless GRAW ppl add more checkpoints and some health patch up.....coz once u are pinned down in GRAW ...it takes too much time to finish the objective

PS: i always play at max difficulty without any sorts of cheats......

@ajex: You must be really brave and patient to play all the games at the highest difficulty. I played COD4 at the 'Hardened' difficulty and sometime around the middle I was regretting that( especially during the last part of the 'Hunted level', fighting besides the Merry go round). But eventually I completed the game.

For GRAW, every one recommends Normal difficulty for maximum fun. Highest difficulty is a little frustrating in this Game.

Off topic: I have observed that playing FPS's at higher difficulty makes you a little better even in online multiplayer shooter. I am still bad at them but not as bad as I used to be.

GRAW and COD4 are two different kind of games atleast thats what i think COD4 is just go and kill kill kill although its really awsome and epic but u're never under the feeling that your alone cuz your backup keeps on coming no matter if every one dies.

In GRAW u have to take care of your team mates and urself too.Its definitely more tactical if you want a good tactical try out the Rainbow Six series but don't have high expectation from the new one R6:Vegas cuz the tactical part is thrown outa the window its just normal commanding your team mates nothing like rocket science.

And ya as far as the highest difficulty if concerned the developers just put the highest difficulty only to increase the gameplay time it might take 6 hrs for you to finish COD4 in normal where as it will take u more 5 hrs to play the game on highest difficulty.

the reason i play on highest difficulty is what baccilus has rightly said about the multiplayer ....coz in multiplayer we are dealing with players like us! and they are more cunning that the AI ... and the satisfaction on finishing it at max difficulty is supreme!! ... and we get the maximum out of the game we hav bought ;P (lol dunn call me a miser ;) ) ....

Odd to compare GRAW to Cod4. The only thing the two games have in common is that they are FPSs.

Now compare GRAW to Rainbow six Vegas and you have yourself a discussion.

Personally I would go for RSV anytime. Its not as tactical as GRAW but its a lot more enjoyable. Plus it has the best cover system ever used in any game.

RS V also has to have one of the best AI I have ever seen in any game. In fact its the only game I can recall recently where the AI can outflank and kill me with a really good degree of success.

And play it co op with a buddy. Its unbelievably tense and even more tactical. As its only two of you instead of three and if you both die you have to restart the level.

RSV hmm... I haven't played it. But will play it when I get done with this one( If my humble P4 2.66GHz,1GB RAM, 8500GT system allows it).

May be I just found myself my favorite genre. COD4 has everything going it's way, but GRAW seems to be more satisfying to me.

And these two games are not exactly apples and oranges! They could be oranges of different species, but they are certainly not different enough to be incomparable.

By the way, if I loved GRAW, which other game may I like? Just wondering...

America's Army, Rainbow: Six Vegas

If you just like squad management, try
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30

Cod 4 was fun and exhilarating, GRAW was a lil less fun but it fills u with adrenaline, ya the initial version had a lota bugs, same as ajex have mentioned. but its as realistic as u get in a fps genre. RS V is good if not the best shooter i've played for a long time. its a mix up of Cod 4 and GRAW. Best of all i never got the dreaded headache and nauseating feeling i used to get in HL2 in any of these games. i hate the Source games.

Americas Army: No decent servers for India. Moreover, I get my ass kicked in it. I will definitely try GRAW2 and RSV soon.

@Memnon: That nauseatic and Headachish feeling while playing source games and GRAW and RSV could also be due to stomach problems. May be you are so addicted to them that you forget to take a Sh*t when you should. LOL. Just joking.

lol ... i only play FPS's and NFS's :bleh: and till now i never felt headaches and my longest session was on PREY ...14 hours non-stop...and finished it the same day it was installed:hap2: ....i actually went mad that day :ashamed: but still no headaches ;) ....and HL2 series is also nice ... and for the games u would like...i think u should try stalker also ...its a nice open environment game and the gfx are great....especially when we are near those mind controlling (or something like that) towers...

but i really dunn like the R6V gfx in vegas ...before that in the mines and the first chapter ...it was gud...but i dont think unreal engine has that ability to create really miondblowing vegas-type gfx ..i maybe wrong but still...i uninstalled it in the vegas episode it self...though i was pretty much owning the AI with a shield and D-eagle :bleh:

Rainbow Six Vegas is something you need to try out. It's the best Tom Clancy game I have played till date.I think it was way superior to GRAW.This is one squad based game which I found very easy to adjust to & not that difficult to manage in terms of gameplay.

It's powered by Unreal 3 engine but it's been poorly coded & hence you'll have major issues with the frame rates.Judging by your hardware,it might just pull through at 1024x768 at medium settings perhaps but then again it's definetly worth a shot. The missions are really engaging & the graphics are excellent.

I havent played GRAW but I've played GRAW2.. Its the best tactical shooter I've ever played, in terms of realism.. But COD4 is better in terms of the fun factor..

There is only one true tactical shooter and that's RavenShield.
The extensive planning room sessions in that one are a game in itself.

COD4 ALL THE WAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!

awesome gameplay
amazing storyline
and what not ? !!!! :P

definately much more FUN than GRAW where u have to keep ur hands on 20 diffrent keys at all time :(
