Had the same issue with K-lite Codec 3.4 & 3.8..installed latest 4.7 pack after formating windows. i was able to play movie but after restart, the same error occurs. im on XP +SP2..

:(

thanks for reply stalker.. I've only K-lite Codec pack installed, tried VLC player no issue with it.. Only MPC-HC shows the error..uninstalled the K-lite & reinstalled after restart, works fine 1st but after shutdown, the same error occurs..im really fed up with this.. i prefer to watch movies in MPC, can't shift with other players..:(

^^ I thought the same until i shifted to kmplayer :)

Codec packs screw you over once in a while.. Not worth the trouble imho.

^ never had this issue with k-lite, since windows was infected with Sality virus(got rid of it), K-lite isn't behaving well, i first thought the issue might be related with old HDD.. shifted to VLC, liked it..will try KM player also..:)

What version (and build) you're using on MPC-HC? and your graphic card?

Win XP 5.1 build 2600

I think the issue is coz the virus messed things up for you

yeah, error starts to appear when virus was busy with eating .exe files..

my guess is it is related to either directx (make sre you are updated to latest version) or you have a bad DX filter installed.

Download Radlight Filter Manager Undertaker's Blog: Radlight Filter Manager 1.6, it will allow you to check and see if you have any codec filters that are improperly installed.

Sorry I seem to having probs with the forum link tool lately

yep, i've old Dx 9 installed( the one bundled with SP2) Version = 4.09.00.0904. will install latest but the size of new one is huge..:(
i think, the issue might be related with old Dx. 9c

btw, installed RFM, it didn't show me missed codec filters installed. duuno how to use it..

I was hoping that it would show you if you had broken codec installations. Maybe a better Direct show filter manager is "Direct Show Filter Manager" Download it and check to see if you have broken codec and check the merits of the ones you do have.... you can even restore to standard DirectX codecs.

You can also go into the settings for WMC and change the order of the codec/filter that it uses to playback a specific file compression type.. I ran into this problem once... and I seem to remember just selecting a better/different filter in WMC to decompress the movie file.
