My cousin wants to buy a comp... budget strict 20k... and he games a bit... the config that came to my mind is below... give your thoughts..

CPU / Mobo:

Sempron 64 3000+ (754 pin) - 3850

Asus K8N-VM (NF5 chipset, Onboard 6100) - 3750

Rest of sys:

Hynix 512MB DDR 400 - 1775

Seagate 80GB HDD - 2200

Sony CD writer - 1225

Generic Cabinet with 350W PSU - 1300

LG 15" Ord - 4150

Logitech K/B - 220

Logitech scroll - 150

Altec Lansing AVS200 - 400

Total - 19020

UPS Wipro - 1700

I have confusion on CPU/Mobo when i look at VFM. My other options would be

Option 1:

Intel Celeron 2.8Ghz (LGA socket, 64bit support) - 2850

Asus P5RD1-VM (Ati xpress 200 chipset, x300 onboard) - 3200

Is this Celeron D? if so this is much better VFM than Sempron 64 3000+

Option 2:

Pentium 4 2.66Ghz (LGA socket, 64bit support) - 4400

Asus P5RD1-VM (Ati xpress 200 chipset, x300 onboard) - 3200

I have gone away from Intel chipset as Ati with x300 is much better for casual gaming.

Option 3:

AMD Athlon 64 2800+ (754 pin) - Can any one tell the price???

Asus K8N-VM (NF5 chipset, Onboard 6100) - 3750

Now the battle is between

Athlon 64 Vs P4 - where Athlon wins hands down

Sempron 64 3000+ Vs Celeron 2.8 - If this is Celeron D, i think it will be a close call...

Which Proc/Mobo is value for money???

and how much will Sempron 3000+ lag behind P4 2.66 or Athlon 64 2800+ in gaming?

Celeron is the cheapest of the lot and looks VFM if it is Celeron D...

Please tell your thoughts..... for CPU/Mobo as well as the other components... also abt the stability of various mobo's that i had given

Note- Above rates taken from Deltapage

The Sempron 64 3000+ will be faster than the celery anyday unless you overclock the crap out of the celery. Of course you could overclock the sempron too :). In gaming its a no contest... no matter how much u oc the celery, the sempron will beat it at stock!

^^ thats fine... but how abt Sempron 64 3000+ vs P4 2.66Ghz?? as the difference between the rates is only 550?? also the celeron that i mentioned has 512KB L2 cache... so it might be better than older Celerons right?

and how much does Athlon 64 2800+ cost?? is it available?

also amoung x300 onboard n 6100, which is better? - i think this also can decide whether the Intel setup or AMD setup will be better for gaming....

The A64 2800+ costs like 4.8k i think and if u can go for that will be the best option, The onboard graphics are more or less the same give or take 5%.

if it helps by any chance, my A64 2800+ can do 2.5 ghz on air :D and for the price it cant be beaten by any processor at all !

Try getting an A64 2800+ , they are excellent value for money. If you can lay your hands on the T-force 6100 mobo by krypton, you could flash it to a better mobo bios, which you could use to o/c the shit out of the processor.

The comp that i am assembling is for a cousin of mine and he has just completed 10th... so overclcking, flashing bios is out of question...

According to deltapage A64 3000+ 754 cost 4950... so i guess that A64 2800+ should be 300-400 less if available...

opening a month old thread again.... need some recomendations...

15" monitor - which to go for LG / Samsung / Philips/ ViewSonic

but have seen a few samsung monitors gone bad.. so thinkin abt eliminating Samsung.. what say?

UPS - Wipro / TVS / Powercomm

I have a TVS UPS for my comp for nearly 2 yrs... no problem what so ever... 100% satisfied... but what do u guys recommend? also tell the approx cost when u recommend...

Speaker - Altec Lansing AVS 200 / Creative SBS 240

both cost around 400.. which is better?? any other speaker in this range???

CD writer - Sony / Gigabyte / LG

which is better?? Gigabyte is the cheapest... any specific models?

Viewsonic for the monitor, TVS for the UPS (though im tempted to recommend the microtek) and i guess the Gigabyte will be fine enough. Wonder how the viewsonic service is.

Raghu.

ok decided on the config... going tomm to buy it.. one question though....

how do u connect the comp to the music system??? (i want to connect it to a poineer system which has 3 cd changer and has an output of 1800w pmpo)

Sorry , i did'nt noticed that that you have already purchased the system. But should'nt have settled anything less than 650VA UPS with a 17" Monitor. I guess for the same budget you could have settled for Microtek 800 VA UPS as APC UPS are too expensive. Also you could have got yourself an MSI Board instead of ASUS, as recent ASUS value Boards are having BIOS Problems.
