Me comp's fine...when i try dialup, comp restarts in some 5-10 secs after it starts dialling...happens everythime :(

BBand got d/c...exams...

currently on sis's comp..dialup is fine!!!!!

BTW, checked volts, everything is fine...still this happens...any clue?

havent used it since 4-5months, since i got bband

Its a Dlink modem with connexant chip....

It is system failure, if you have xp & if you want to stop it from restarting then go system properties/startup recov - sytem failure - take out the the tick from automatically restart.

reinstall the drivers for your modem, or unistall & reinstall the modem. see if it helps.

i dont get any warning...but it doesnt restart quickly...the screen blanks out, disconnects, 2 secs later restarts...

i havent used any drivers for it...using the ones windows loaded

in that case first thing is install the original drivers from the driver cd of the dlink modem, as only your dialing is causing the reboot.

another thing is check out the irq of the modem, is it shared by some other component too, maybe an irq conflict.

ohhhkay...will try putting the modem in anotherslot too....thanks dipdude :)

Dude,in all certainity its an IRQ conflict....just try a new PCI slot.If there r other PCI devices try moving them arnd the slots too.

As far as I can remember the connexant chip was not supported by XP. I had this DLink modem some years back and when I upgraded to XP I had lots of problems too. The only driver I found that worked with this modem and XP were those from Zoltrix the version of this driver that used to work for me is SFT212. If you have any problems I will attach this driver - it is about 1.5mb

ummm...i used the default drivers since i got the modem...never installed the drivers that came on the CD, was working fine..

i moved the soundcard one slot up...is that creating problems?
