Team,

I have a compaq laptop (2515) three years old. I was watching some movie from a pen drive and the lappy just froze, After that I tried switching off and then the laptop is not powering on. I get two beeps and then a message "F1 to continue and f11 to enter setup" the keys are not responding and i even tried with an external keyboard, still no result

Can anyone help me please?

enter setup and restore bios defaults

next

run a live linux cd...see if it boots..n u can use keyboard ect

report what happens

Thank you for your kind replies,

I am not able to enter setup at all, When I powerup i get two short beeps and comes to a DOS screen which says "F11 to enter setup and F1 to continue, after that nothing happens. none of the keys are responding

do onething, remove power cord & battery for 15 mints. Then connect battery only, also one USB keyborad and powerup the lap to check that the two beeps are present /or able to login to BIOS setup. If yes then its the keyboard error. The initial two beeps are also due to jammed keyboard keys/controller etc according to Compaq service guide.

please post your result here for further guidance !

Dude is it in warranty...If yes take it to the service center

Else you have to take it to some good laptop repair shop...

That seems feasible...i wud say

the two beeps on compaq laptops signify the failure of cmos battery. See if there is any message which says "Default bios settings loaded" or something(dont remember exactly) on the screen. Still the laptop keyboard should work. Try replacing the laptop's cmos battery with a new one. Then when u start it u wont have to press anything on keyboard to boot it. Still after booting if the keyboard doesnt works there might be a problem with the keyboard.

Thank you for your kind replies again, I did try connecting an external keyboard. Its not working, Can I change the CMOS battery by myself or do I have to give it to someone experienced? There is no message other than "F1 TO CONTINUE AND F11 TO ENTER SETUP"

Is there a good repairer that i can trust in Blore?

Download the manual for ur laptop and then try doing it only if u understand it properly otherwise let it go. the cmos battery failure can be surely said only if the date and time or bios settings got reset or changed when ur laptop was working fine.

If u experienced any symptoms then the battery might be the culprit. however the keyboard should still work :(. But u can atleast give it a try.

Took it to a repairer and he is saying that the BIOS has gone Kaput and is irrepairable
:-( Do anyone know places in bangalore from where i can get the Bios replaced?

But BIOS can be reset, if he has the required tool. Laptop BIOS come on small IC (not all), you'll need to take it out, connect it to that device and then download the BIOS from the company's website and then reset. I forgot the name of this device.

One more thing, open the laptop, remove the battery and insert a new battery. Just be careful, because you'll have to remove some dozen screws for this.
