My compaq v3425au laptop does not boot anymore. When I press the power on button only the blue led glow but there's no display:S. I'm aware about the HP extended service scheme but I don't want to give them because I have read the reviews of many unhappy customers whose problem still persist after those repairs.

Also when my laptop was working i noticed the temp and realized that though the hard disk, cpu, mb temperatures were fine the gpu temp was extraordinarily high. It reached 86 deg C within 10 minutes after powering on. So i assume the problem to be something about desoldering of my laptops nvidia chip on the mobo.

Solution:

I don't want to sell this laptop, but i was thinking of replacing the motherboard with any other model with the pentium 4 or some other slow processor(i don't play games and use it for simple stuff and also any of the second hand stuff will work)or any mobo with AMD X2(socket s1) proccy socket(the default config of this lappy). Or nowadays many netbooks are available i could replace it with tht mobo and proccy also.

Problem again:
1. I don't know if those motherboards could fit in my laptop! or i any way i can fit them.

Any suggestions will be greatly appriciated.:hap2:

There is only little chance of getting compatile mobo suted for your lappy, because the laptop maotherboards are custom made for each one .3000AU series had these issues and it is because of the nvidia GPU.Only option you had is to give the laptop to hp service centre

That's impossible for this laptop because they will replace the motherboard with the same model and after some days the same problem will occur, so ultimately its useless. and also its out of warranty now so i will have to pay a huge amount will i'm not willing to for this lappy.

I suggest you get the extended warranty and get the motherboard replaced. Couple of my friends opted for the same and got their motherboards and optical drives replaced. Batteries are not covered in this warranty policy I believe.

How did you conclude that the problem of overheating was related to desoldering of the chip? :S

The thermal paste must've dried due to the prolonged usage which's quite natural so if you can open up the laptop yourself and clean the paste and apply a fresh coat, you could expect some better results. Besides 86'C is quite normal for the temps of these GPUs. If it wasn't, the laptop would shut it down by itself.

@pat : ya i know about this extended warranty by hp, but my laptop's extended warranty expired on 30/10/2008 and so the extended warranty by 30/10/2009 and i have already talked to them. this problem occurs again and again and again.....

@gannu: because dude i read it in many forums. they all say this. and my laptops temp sometimes went beyond 100 deg(hope u know how much temp tht is, water boils at tht temp) and normally it used to be at 85 min.

i accept abt ur thermal paste suggestion but now the mobo's is already gone....im ready to spend money if there is a permanent solution, bt not for facing the same problem again.

what is ur answer to my solution part? can i do it?

I had faced a similar issue, got it fixed as it was still under extended warranty! First time, I got the same problem within 3 days of it being fixed. Its been working fine since they fixed it the 2nd time..i.e. more than 6 months now..

@pat

wht was the problem with ur laptop. nd wht did they say they had repaired?

one more thing-if u still have tht lappy, then can u plz tell me the temp of ur graphic card which is displayed in the nvidia utility. both the idle and with full proccy usage without any cooling pad.

Where r u located ? In Hyderabad, One service person is replacing GPU, I am not sure about the results after replacement of GPU, life of the Laptop.

For your information, I was having same Laptop, after do little research, i concluded to to scrap and use/sell components and bought Intel Dual Core and now I am very happy.

But, I got a quote from HP of Rs. 14K for Repair + 1 year extended warranty
