Thanks all you people for your previous response...I am going for WD Caviar Black.....Got a quote of Rs. 6,500 ../

One of my friend has to buy a new 1 TB Hard disk....at economical rate with best performance....

We have shortlisted the following two hard disk here....

Can you people please help us out...In determining which one shall serve the purpose best....

His main purpose of the hard disk is to store data...and stuff...And have a good primary drive..for OS...

It will also be appreciated if you can tell...which one is better performance wise...and which one is better off storage and longivity wise..:huh:

1) Seagate 7200.12 with dual platter

Model No. - ST31000528AS

----5700/-

2) Western Digital Caviar Green Hard Drive 1 TB

Model no. - WD10EADS

-----5750/-

Also, if I could ask, are HDD available in India with 32 MB buffer and storage capacity 500GB (I am asking this bcoz on most of Indian Pricing site I was not able to get the quiote though a 32 MB buffer model is available on the website of WD)...The model no...that I was looking for is..

1)Western Digital Caviar Green Hard Drive 500 GB

Model no. - WD5000AADS

The Seagate will be faster - 7200RPM and 2 platters, vs. the EADS's unspecified (ut slower than 7200RPM). As for longevity, take your pick.. the recent Seagate fiasco has left a sour taste in many mouths, but it's your call.
 
If its backup then go for WD10EADS ...Cant imagine a day when all my 1000gb goes for a toss with seagate :bleh: (Its my opinion)

Tech2 has given Seagate's 7200.12 1Tb very impressive reviews. I am looking to buy a 1Tb HDD, and am faced with a similar choice - WD Caviar Black or Seagate 7200.12 . It has also been said that the 7200.12 does not suffer from the 7200.11's faults. Keeping these in mind, which one is a better option ?
 
Seagate .12 series is still not confirmed to be reliable still a lot of problems. 7200.12 is not as fast as people expected it to be -->. So WD wins again :hap2: .
 
WD has better random access n OS startup performance.

File copy speed is not everything, HDD should be balanced, file copy speed + random access + boot times, many things matter.

Overall WD 1Gb Black is better deal.
 
^ thats unwanted comment, HDD in UR siggy - WD 500GB is POS U know, 70mbps 14sec, whereas 7200.11/7200.12 r 90mb/110mb n 12sec/14sec respectively.

U asked between 2, we suggested. Dont start flame war WD vs Seagate, always compare model against model not brands.

Thats why U dont have single rep so far, n 100 posts.

PS : I have used both WD, Seagate.
 
Chill dude...As my post started earlier, I had mentioned......My preference for WD Caviar Black FALS...which I derived from my previous thread in same heading...This one was for my friend...He actually went for Seagate 500 GB 7200.12 as it was easily available, and I did saw that it was giving Ultimate Transfer speeds...

About War, I dont know ...though I have also used both of them(I dont knew why you wrote that...Come we have grown up watching Seagate Hard disk)...

But now Seagate has detoriated its Rep..... And I personally feel WD to be a superior Company....Even Alienware people uses WD Hardisk for storage along with Velicopter Raptor.....

So like that...

As WD Caviar Black FALS kicks all seagate harddisk in this range, and had got a lot of good reviews....

And have a hell of transfer Speeds here...
 
There is chaos out here..No clear winner yet best thing is to have a poll..Everybody has own story to tell about experience about both HDD..Lets have a poll..

As far as HDDs go, here is how I decide.

1. Good warranty service.
2. Good speed---unless one has a really data-intensive and time-sensitive need.
3. Multiple backups.

Don't worry about minor differences in speed, price etc.

Don't you mean only 10 options allowed... any number of votes...? I'm baffled here... you need just 2 options: Seagate or WD...

Did you even read the comparison you posted???? You would not have said WD wins again then, leaving other technicalities aside, here is the conclusion page which clearly states that the reviewers were disappointed the 1TB WD Green...

For me WD was a bad experience. My WD10EACS only used it for 2 Weeks is dead, not getting detected in bios. :( :(
