can you give us some more information:

1. what is the viewing distance?

2. what is your budget?

3. what do you plan to watch on your tv, as in, what are the devices which are gonna be connected to your tv .. dth.. gaming console.. dvd player.. any hd content..

Hi,

The viewing distance is some what between 15 - 20 feet. This i am looking for home usage. This will be used to view movie on dish TV, DVD. Not going to use for game.

Budget is not a constrain.

Can somebody suggest what are basic criteria which needs to be used for comparison between plasma TV and LCD?

hey since you want a basic tv for dish tv viewing (and hence dont really require hd and stuff..) there is only one adivce (or atleast until 2 months back this was the only adivce ;) ) anyways check out panasonic 42pv8/80.. both are good sets with amazing value for money!

well if budget is not a issues and at that viewing distance u can go for LCDs above 46inch or a 50inch plasma,at that distance of 20feet u wont be able to differentiate b/w HD and FHD nor will SD be different in both HD and FHD tvs at that distance, but by chance if someone sits close to around 10feet or less FHD makes sense.
now as far as LCD and plasma goes some plasmas like pioneer kuro still have the edge, while normal HD plasmas like panasonic PV8/80 have a contrast less then todays lcds from samsung/sony.while the FHD panasonic plasma has a 10% edge in contrast compared to conventianal backlight lcds from samsung/sony.

BTW sony has launched the new W450A series with 100hz motionflow and the new Z series with 200hz motionflow, sadly the Z series is more expensive then the X series.

It was the plasma tv not stand, and it was sold for 29950 few days before i reached croma store mulund. it was a display piece. it was the only piece

They consume more power, are expensive to manufacture and cant be miniaturized to the the size of wafer thin LED screens.
