Is a normal a/v cable good enough to hook up the component outs of my Philips DVD player to the component ins of my Sony CRT?

Or does a component cable deliver a better picture quality? If it does please suggest where I could pick one up in Mumbai and its approximate cost.

Thanks

Been there, done that. My advise -

Normal AV is good enough. There will be barely any difference on CRT.

Actually, there is a significant degradation when you use a composite (AV) cable to connect any two pieces of equipment together. While you don't have to buy the most expensive component cable out there, a good cable will ensure low noise and static in the image.

Tested on my 29" Sony CRT, there is a lot of noise introduced when using the bundled component cable. An investment of Rs. 500 in a unbranded but well-built component cable clears up any vestiges of noise and distortion.

Thanks rshri and sangram.

A lot of people do claim that a well built inexpensive composite cable is often as good as those premium priced component ones.

In these days of cost cutting, I don't know how good the bundled composite (a/v cables) are. So I think I'll go out on a limb and get a separate component and test it out. Will post my experience soon.

Got the following rates for the component cables upon inquiring around.

Nikkon ?= Rs.250

MX = Rs.350

Panasonic = Rs.450

Any suggestions on which cables to go for.

Thanks

^^ +1. MX is usually the cheapest cable that 'gets the job done', with a few exceptions (such as their optical cables, which require a bit of science).
