well i have ebeen getting thisp roblem lately where my computer reboots,no blue screen no error NOTHING jus reboots.

it started about 2-3 weeks ago where it would reboot say once a week to say one few days to once few hours or mins now, timings are very erratic, right now its at the spot where i may uset he os for like 2 mins or if i lucky 20 mins and it reboots, the fastest reboot was on seeing the windows xp welcome screen

i thought this would be the os gone bad and did a format, thrice and reload of windows but the problem still persists to which im definite thats its a hardware issue, well im kinda clueless as to whats causing the problem as there are no error msgs nothin, its like the same when u get a power cut for a second and ur comp reboots, that kinda reboot

i have a spije+surge guard, all electrical outlets r fine and no issues, i even changedt he point,no probs.

Now if you guys could help me solve this or at least pinpoint wuts causing the problem i cud go ahead n get it fixed/replaced.

Thx for the replies b4 they arrive.

To find out what's causing the problem or to stop XP from restarting itself on hardware failure - goto system properties - advanced - startup & recovery - system failure - just disable/uncheck the "Auto Restart".

Just note down the error and post back.

hmm im at office now im not too sure if thats unchecked, will check the same when i get home but i did check the event viewer and no logs there.

also the o/p voltage from the psu also seemed fine.

ps the automatically restart is by default unchecked, and it would write a log in the event viewer,as i said no dump was created and no events in the event viewer

Why don't you restore your XP to Last Good Run or somthing like that option are there.

If all is well check for Bios updates with MOBO Mfg. it's free.

gee stick wish things were that simple but it isnt and windows xp restore is no good crap

ps.i FORMATED my system if that lights a bulb

and ive been usin my mobo for a good 6 months i dunno how an update now wud help

umm wild guess but can u exactly tell tht does it reboot when u execute/disconnect some software??

cause my pacenet dialer once created such a mayhem now its rectified...

This is wat Microsoft has to say

one of your RAM sticks has gone bad. If one of the RAM locations goes bad, then every time that specific location is accessed, your machine would restart. try using a tool like memtest to check the rams. I got the same problem once, I did not have any of the mem tools handy, so I alternately removed one of the RAM sticks and found out the faulty one. you can try that too.

Updating of BIOS is Last option for you, so try all options, post here, all will try level best to help you and if no option left than only Update BIOS, as you said your MOBO is just 6 month old means it's mfg. date is 6 month old or it is there in mkt. but you purchased it 6 month before?

system isnt running hot at all,i think wut lord_nem is sayin is quite logical and maybet he prob, will load up one of the boot cds and do a memory test right away when i get home 2day,thx guys :)

i think ive figured this out guys , thx for ur help

i updated teh bios , did a reinstall again, didnt load any of teh stuff, theer was a prob with the drivers + antivirus sad 2 hear but thats wut was causing this

,this thread can be closed now

Happened a lot with me ..causes..
1> hard disk ba sector.
2> Bios conflict
3> no issue happens just shut ur system down and re plug the 24 pin connector. it might work. switch ur pc on only after 30 mins or so.

guess what i bought a new RAM 2 dayss earlier and i combined with my previous RAM. and the same thing started to happen to me, my comp restarted quite a few times. some times it took more than 1 hour and sometimes it restarted on the window screen. icefusion helped me out in this and i figured out that RAM was faulty. so i am guessing that might be the problem

I dono if this is happening to ur system too....I had a similar problem...I later found out that the output power from my UPS was not as needed, this was spoiling my system...I changed the battery in the UPS..my sytem was fine.
