1. There is no jaspers in india... maybe the march rumour may hold joy for all....

2. 360 Vs ps3 ... PS3 only... i owned both...people who used boh can definitely say which is better....

360..

1. controller

2. Multi plyaer

3. Modding

4. Gears.. :D ( but GeOW1 made to PC and so will GeOW2...so this fails)

ps3

1. Console

2. Free MP..but cannot be compared to LIVE which is FAR superior.

3. Some of the BEST exclusives

4. The others stuffs that you can make it do like... wireless streaming...linux..(I never did this though)..

so in the END...

If Multiplayer is a ur forte go for 360...no arguments...

If single player is then ps3...but its MP is no slouch either... Hey its free..that ought to be a plus...

Let's not get with the "i have owned both the consoles" (however one was sitting eating dust cause of my bias :P) argument.

Ouch !!!, You mean to say that I sent 10k more on a XBOX 360 than on a PS3 to get the Elite version and then let it sit and gather just because I am biased againist the 360 and towards the PS3. If you want to counter the opinions of people who own both consoles, at least state a sensible reason for gods sake :P

Let me tell you that my main gaming platform is still the PC and 80% of my gaming is still done on it. I got both consoles soley for their respective exclusives and I found the 360 severely lacking in the quality of its exclusives compared to the PS3. Though in terms of quantity 360 used to have the upper hand.

I was looking forward to Halo 3 when I got my 360 and found the game to be utter crap for single player game play. I had more fun with some of the arade game demos preloded on the hard drive. After Mass Effect and Ninja Gainden II, I found no 360 exclusive (meaning its not available on PC or PS3) worth buying. If you disagree, you tell me some exclusive titles worth buying other than Fable 2.

Err somehow i missed your dissection of my post on the previous page. That comment wasn't even meant for you, it's just a friendly tiff between me and stormy. And tbh i am not really in the mood to argue and re-iterate the same things over and again :P Fickle argument ? Yes but no mood to argue you see :P

i know 3 people on this forum that own / owned 360 & ps3 both. me, sharekhan & lord nemesis. all 3 of us prefer ps3 & all 3 of our 360's is/was unused gathering dust. cant be a co-incidence.

if any other person also owns both consoles please share your opinion.

but as i already said earlier. if you prefer halo/gears/fable type of games then there is really no choosing as 360 is the way to go.

^^It can't be a co-incidence but a sample of 3 is too small to evaluate a better console specfically if you three happen to have the same gaming tastes. If the OP's requirements are platformers, puzzles, and a cheap BD player he should ideally get the ps3.

After reading all your suggestions and carefully considering every aspect of the consoles, I've decided to opt for the PS3.

Streaming my media is an added bonus considering I've got a huge collection of DivX movies and episodes of various series'. Not to mention, with the whole "5 man group" to buy games online, and with the wide assortment of PS3 users here, trading games would be more plausible.

Finally, the RROD issue isn't a risk I'm willing to take. Considering the cost aspect would amount to almost the same if I were to buy a wireless controller, network adapater and an HDD, I might aswell go for the PS3.

Thanks for all the help folks.

Now if anyone can point me to the right store for a PS3. Intend to pick it up with my CC on installments if possible.

Cheers ~

If you want with extended 3 years warranty, buy from any Croma store. otherwise many retailers are selling the 80gb model for rs 24000.

its not at all worth taking from croma in installments. works out really really expensive.

best is to take from the retailers. they are selling the 80gb model for 23900rs.

Another issue is that I want to play Region A Blu-Rays. I don't buy DVD's / Blu-Ray's locally, horrible encoding by the local production houses.

Keeping that in mind, will the PS3 play all Blu-Ray's or do I have to make sure I buy an NTSC version? Will the games be a problem them? :|

all ps3 games are region free.

u will need to get the bluray of the particular region which is india. dont know the exact region number for here.
if u get ntsc discs from usa they will not work here. they will only work if the bluray movie is region free. i believe there are lots of bluray movies that are region free nowdays.

Yeah, I read up on the games, no issues there. I also read that most movies are Region free now-a-days. However, this poses a slight dilemma.

I might have to buy one from the gray market, or get one imported via KMD to get Region A DVD's to work for sure >.<

Which means my warranty = Kaput!

^^^

Buy from india.... dont worry...

You will get most Blu-rays...coz popular ones will be released everywhere...and if not..torrents

buy local. there is not much price difference. it might cost more to get via kmd.

the print of the local & movies abroad is the same.

I've got a superbly horrifying print of LOTR that I purchased locally. I'd be more than happy to show you the difference between that and a US release of the same movie. Just don't trust it >.<

Plus, downloading a blu-ray movie from a torrent off of a 256kbit connection will take me weeks :|

Buying Blu-ray discs right now doesnt make sense!

You could atleast wait for a few months(years) net speeds are horribly slow in India & the discs way too expensive.

If you're only opting for a PS3 'coz it can stream your A/V from PC. Guess what xbox360 can do that as well!!!

Just my opinion.

I've owned all 3 consoles at the same time, but now I no longer have the PS3, I've never really enjoyed it except for the BD capabilities. But that's because I am not a big fan of its exclusives. So, out it went and now I have a stand alone BDP for my movies.

My 360 also acts as a wireless media player: all my movies and music are streamed wirelessly to it from my server. Plus the advantage of Netflix (US Only ofcourse) made me stick to the console.

I would suggest find out the rates from the grey market here. if there is a price difference of greater than 5k, buy it from there (grey market) as you will get a NTSC console and you wont have to worry about the blu-ray region (because most titles are Region A, same as NTSC console).

Regarding warranty, ps3 is prone to SOD (Spin of Death) that also if you are really really unlucky. Overall ps3 is a very stable console. In future if you face this problem, it can easily be done by replacing lens which costs rs 3000 (grey market people to the rescue). Still it would come cheaper than buying a legit console with warranty plus you also get Region A titles compatibility.

yes i never said that the 360 cannot play media wirelessly. but u need to buy the wifi reciever seperately which is what my point was.

I agree with you lord.In the long run PS3 is the best option though i own and spend most of my time on X360
