Confusion between 2 TV models (40")

Am looking to buy a 40" HDTV.

Was just looking at some retailer websites and found 2 TVs fitting in my budget of 60k.

1. LCD - Sony Bravia KLV-40V300A
2. Plasma - Samsung PS42A410C1

I was wanting to buy the Sony LCD but a friend advises me to buy a Plasma. I'm confused and would like the more knowledgeable people on TE to advise.

Any other suggestions that you would have??

^^Check out the Panasonic PV8 as well. Better than both of those.

That samsung plasma is rather nice for HD content but absolutely atrocious for SD content. As far as sony is concerned, anything below the 100Hz LCDs is not worth it.

it depends everyone has their own preferences.. i for one dont like lcds.. even the full hd ones get pixalated @ short distances..

i finally went tv shoping today.. only to realize that plasma are still anyday better in picture quality.. so ultimately decided to go for a panny..!

hmm just had a demo of the 40" Sony KLV S400A last week..must say looked great for the price...75k..The major difference between this and the samsung A series is the sound quality and the Bravia 2 Engine...Have a demo of this model if you can.

Is there a big diff in sound & picture qualiity between the Sony 40" S400A and the Samsung 40" A550 ?

I have paid money for the Samsung but asked for delivery next Fri. I can change my mind even now and pay the diff and ask for the Sony S series 40".

Plz let me know.

Update:

Just got my panasonic 42pv8 installed. and super cheap..

the picture is amazing.. only have to setup my home theatre.. will do tat tomo.. :>

Between the two definitely go for the Bravia although it might be slightly costlier...The sound is much better than on the samsung...

Am not worried abt sound. Don't watch much of regular TV. Parents do that and they won't notice any diff in sound. Movies are thru home theatre. So i'm cool. To tell u honestly I found the display of Samsung 5 series better than the Sony. And at 68k i found that to be a super deal.

It will be delivered by Fri. Getting my old TV repaired to get some exchange value :)

well i had to get a number of pieces, so got a wonderful price. and have been asked by the dealer not to disclose prices. It was under 60k. If anyone wants more info drop me a pm.

The Movie mode+ Warm (and bump up the contrast to 60 if you wish) gives the most accurate colors on PV7 series and I suspect on PV8 too..... The standard mode is high on contrast and in cool mode.. That makes the Ekta Kapur serials look washed out and glaring... Initially the (movie mode+ Warm) might look mild, but once you adjust to it(in a few days) you will appreciate it...

^^^ lolz.. already got the contrast bumped upto 60.. dint really fiddle around much with the other settings .. still have to get the freaking tata sky installed in my room.. man its a pain to get the wiring done..;)

anyways lets c will try out the movie mode tonight! :> hopefully post a few pics in the showoff section aswell!
