Monitors Connecting IGP output and GFX card output in a Single Monitor

Hi All

Here is what I have

780G mobo with IGP having both VGA and DVI output
HD 4870 with DVI output
Benq E2200HD with VGA and DVI input

I am wondering whether I can connect
VGA output of IGP to VGA input of monitor and
DVI output of HD4870 to DVI input of monitor and switch between them using BIOS setting.

So that when ever I am into browsing and movie watching I can use IGP and when ever I am into gaming I can use HD4870 and save some power(around 150w).

Is the above setup possible?
Does this create any problem to my mobo or monitor?
Can I able to really save power?
Even If I switch to IGP, will GFX card still consumes power?

Thanks Guys.

I am not talking about cross fire here buddy. I am talking about saving power by switching b/w igp and gfx card.

ATI still does not allow you to switch off discreet GPU & use IGP only to save power... Your graphic card will still be running in idle mode consuming power....

Blame it on ATI drivers...

So does the nVidia card allow you to do so and how do you do it?
