Hi i have a internet connection at one flat and using a belkin router i give wired connections to 3 other pc's . Now from that router i have also connected lan cable to another house which is around 50-60m distance .

Now at this other house using wired connection connected directly to the pc i get internet connection .

At this other house i wanted to use wireless internet and hence purchased a belkin n150 router . Now whatever i do i am not able to connect to internet using this router . Any help is appritiated and sorry for the long post .

You should connect the second router's WAN through the first Router's LAN and add the devices on the second Router to a whole new broadcast domain.

Connect the wire to the routers WAN port and in config of router, configure it as direct connection, similar to as you would do with a modem+router combo. configure it as an AP.

@damn can you please simplify this "and add the devices on the second Router to a whole new broadcast domain" i am noob here .

@ vivel.krishnan you mean configure the second router as an access point ? I tried that but then the light on second router keeps blinking green , i think i am inputting the ip address wrong ?

Did that still the light on n150 router keeps blinking green . i can connect to the router but theres no internet connection . i dont know where i am going wrong .

Also one more thing , i have to connect the lan cable in one of the lan port or on the internet/modem port on the router ?

-Your primary router's WAN is configured within your ISP's network.

-Now your next step is to add your local devices(directly connected to primary router) and your second router's WAN into a network into your first router's LAN network, by default most routers are issued with a Class C private, so this should be 192.168.0.0/24 or 192.168.1.0/24.

-The last step is to add all the devices you wish to access through your secondary router into another network. If you are using it from factory condition, again the default LAN network could be 192.186.0.0/24 or 192.168.1.0/24, so edit it to be a unique network from that of your first router's LAN network. (Ex :192.168.2.0/24)

PS : /24 means a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

You are right my the primary routers ip is configured in my ISP's network

Now , i am trying to use the second router as access point .
Primary routers ip is 192.168.2.1
Ip pool starting address 192.168.10
Ip pool ending address 192.168.100
Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

In the secondary router there is function for using it as an access point , when i enable it asks for new ip and subnet , what should i enter the ip ?? subnet mask is obiously same . Also the channel and ssid key on both routers is kept same . Two routers are connected to each other with wired lan cable on the lan ports and not the internet port .
Anything that i am missing . I will configure the laptop that will be using the secondary router later but first atleast it should get internet connection .

I'd suggest using static IPs and not a DHCP server, it'll make configuring your second Router's WAN easier.

- You said you were using only wired connections from the first Router, disable Wireless communication entirely on that. Even the most basic routers come with 4 LAN ports, so I am guessing if you have three devices connected on the first router, you'll still have one port free.
- Connect that LAN port to the Router 2's WAN port using a cross cable.
- Now your Router 2's WAN configuration should be something like 192.168.2.5 255.255.255.0 (make sure you diabled DHCP on first Router).
- Use 192.168.3.1 255.255.255.0 for second Router's LAN settings. See if you can reach your ISP's gateway from here and then bother with Wireless connectivity. (Your devices on the second Router should have 192.168.3.2 to 192.168.3.255 with subnet 255.255.255.0

connect the cable to the second router - wan port

change the secondary router ip to 192.x.x.100 x.x = 168.2

secondary router subnet should be same as primary router

dhcp ip range : 192.x.x.101 (start) 192.x.x.110 (end)

you should be done

Ok one strange thing happened today . After using all your different suggestions , just to check i took my second router in flat 1 near the primary router . after some tweaking i managed to enable router 2 as access point , started my laptop , it got connected to router 2 and i had wireless internet connection .Used a small lan cable this time to connect the two routers . Keeping the same settings i took router 2 to the second flat which is 50-70 meters distance apart . And amazingly i got connected to my lappy but there wasnt any internet connection ! Is it the cable length ? Also when i connect the lan cable directly to my laptop in flat 2 then i can access internet . strange !

I will try again tomorrow .
