Connecting two Windows 7 systems using a cross over Cable

Hi,
I'm having trouble connecting my desktop and my laptop using a crossover cable. Most of the guides on the internet are based on Windows XP, But windows 7 has some new stuff called home group, i find it really annoying and i'm not able to connect both systems.

The IP is 192.168.1.34 and 192.168.1.36 and the default gateway and DNS is 192.168.1.1, but still i'm not able to ping both systems...

Can anyone please guide me?
Regards

I managed to solve this after a lot of hair pulling.

1) Connect both comps with a straight or cross cable. Any type will do.
2) Set both nics to auto configure the ip.
3) Ok that's all :)

Homegroups will not work, though.

Only the newer NIC cards/ Some Onboard NIC cards will support running over "Any Cable" Straight or Cross.

It is better to use a Cross Cable and do this, in general.
