Gonna turn my 5 year old P4 system for download and for home use and considering getting a netbook for my browsing/music/TV needs.
Considering the Samsung NC20.Available here in the gulf for ~RS.25,000+ free extras.
Anyone hav any experience with netbooks? And this particular one? (I know its newly launched)
Also wud like to know about the MSI Wind U123,but it isnt available here.

Do you really need a 12" screen? Having such a large screen is a bit pointless IMO since that kinda makes it an ultra-portable and not a netbook. Besides, the VIA platform barely outpowers the standard Atom+GMA950 and the resolution isn't that much better than a standard 10" display.

Based on my experience of owning a NC10SE, I'd recommend checking out Samsung's latest troika of N110, N120 & N310. The N110 is standard fare, the N120 has a 97%-sized keyboard and has a small sub-woofer as well while the N310 adds a funky exterior design. Btw, Samsung's keyboards are a lot better to type on than comparable HP Minis.

P.S.: You might want to look at role reversals for the netbook and that old desktop. You're bills are going to be a lot higher if that P4 keeps downloading stuff all day.

well i dont "need" a 12" but i figure more is better and i dont really want a fullblown laptop
and i know there isnt much diff between the nano and the Atom,in a review the NC20 is a few points behind the NC10 in a few benches.

wats the diff between the NCxx and Nxxx family of the samsung netbooks?

and iv been using that P4 for download 24/7 for the past 2 years and the current bill hasnt been a problem to the parents so,i dont really care :P

10" display - The N110, N120 and N310 are the latest models and successors of the original NC10.

The NC20 is a 12" netbook that might get replaced by a slightly beefier 12" model over the summer.

and how are they for games? not talking about the latest ones...hoping to get back to diablo 2,civ,aoe for pass time...

Also, arnt ultra portables very costly?so if u get a 12" screen which is common wit ultra portables for the price of a netbook isnt tat a good thing?

the NC20 has a battery life of around 5hrs due the 12" screen

checked out the Vaio P at Sony World just now,but its 2x the price of the NC20 for the SSD version, but man it looks tempting...i even fit in my pant pocket! :-)

But the Vaio is dog slow due to the ultra-low powered (and ultra-slow) Atom Z processor. Plus, we don't get the fastest Z 1.86Ghz and have to make do with a pathetic 1.33G/1.5Ghz one.

@gforce:

ever tried lightroom2/photoshop on ur nc10? wud love it if i cud develop my RAW files on the go...

Photoshop CS works like a charm.

CS3 was pretty darn slow and uninstallation took ages. CS3 works, but just barely.

I haven't tried CS4 yet since it's pretty slow on my Thinkpad T42 (Pentium-M 1.8Ghz) so it probably wouldn't run at all on the my Sammy.

finally got it! also a wd my book 1tb and a hp mini laser mouse...

i donno if i have the resources to do a detailed review...maybe after a week...
