Convergence or not!

Hi techies, Im in the market for a mobile phone for myself.
The dilemma though is, to go in for a converged device or buy separate devices.
Here my requirements are a good camera & Wifi, budget is upto 20k.
When it comes to a converged device, Nokia N82 fits the bill, I mean it has a good camera & Wifi to boot.
On second thoughts, its an understood fact that the present gen. mobiles can't match a digi cam in picture quality. Now, if we split the budget ie. buy a cell phone & a digi cam, eg Nokia E51(~10.5K) + Digi cam(~8k), how does this sound.
I don't know which one of these solutions would be better. Even the split up devices are a random thought, could you guys give some better combinations.

*A full fleged phone with good cam & Wifi, 20k budget
*A medium range phone (10-12k), with Wifi, 2mp cam + a separate digi cam.

Converged devices that Im considering are N82/ N79
For separate cell phone, E51/ E63/ 7610 Supernova
Digi cam requirements are - ~7-8mp, lithium ion chargeable battery, slim.
PS- The future devices that interest me are: E55, Nokia 6700, Nokia 5630.
But I don't have an idea about their prices or expected launch dates!

Techies, please share your views/suggestions.

Thanks,
Teche.

try samsung pixon as well. currently retailing at 23k @ mobilestore. you should be able to get yourself a cheaper piece from Alfa in case you are from Mumbai or can source from Mumbai. It comes with an 8 MP camera and touchscreen. Saw a dummy piece. looked good to me...

Cheers,

MHI

Thanks Motorhead, yes Samsung Pixon appears to be a good phone, but IMO it lacks Wifi! Which at the said price is an essential feature!

Thanks Manu, what's the price of LG Renoir?
Though Im not against LG/Samsung, but won't like spending in excess of 10-12K on them!

S.E still does the job for me, but Nokia tops the list!

N78 is a good device, but availability could be an issue, Nokia 6220 is also a good cam phone without Wifi. Although I do not like the looks of both the devices.

Simple,if u dont mind carrying 2 things in place of one ..Then Dedicated devices are better at any given day !!!
on the other hand if u want a single device (with a bit compromised on features)+style factor adds up here... Then converged device it is !!!
my suggestion if u are casual pics taker then stick to converged device

Thanks, yes this is precisely what I was also thinking which got me into confusion!
Problem is, I cannot find a good combination for seperate devices & also do not know which converged device to go in for!

Why not consider the htc touch diamond???
Thanks, I don't know much about HTC with regards to its performance, reliability & after sales service!

Thanks Manu, I guess my mind is tuned to Nokia's after years of enjoying its devices & using them through all sorts of conditions!

BTW, I hear HTC's Touch Viva is a budget offering & there are a couple of good offerings lined up by HTC. But I don't about their pricing, etc.

I personally found windows mobile an equal if not superior platform to symbian , you can check univercell.in for the complete range . IIRC htc has a lot of 20k phones .
if you are more inclined towards the camera part , then sony is definitely worth checking out , motorola also has a decent 5mp , wifi phone the VE66
In nokia though you can checkout the 6260s too , loaded with features to the boot

Dude i think Renoir is good optn since it has nice cam and WIFI too.....
You can try out gsmarena for more reviews regarding them

get n82 now .. or wait a bit for n86 .. truly converged devices... n82 is the phone .. the best nokia till date ..period :hap2: Even i am going back to n82 after going through n95 8gb and then n85 .. nothing matches n82.. seen pixon today .. priced at 22.5 k .. nice phone .. though no os and no xenon flash .. lg renoire has it but its a weak xenon flash compared to n82 .. it also has wifi and gps which pixon lacks ..though pixon has gps only for geotagging of photos..

Thanks, I have no experience with Windows mobile & am in no mood to experiment as Symbian is serving me & my purpose good!
I've seen some offerings by Moto. but wasn't impressed.
Which S.E. device fits the bill?
But Nokia is my all time favourite.

Thanks, checked out the review, but L.G at this price point just doesn't go down the throat!

Thanks, spot on post! Is N82 widely available still?
Interesting to know that you are reverting back from N85/95 8GB, is N82 so good? Actually I was thinking to extend my budget to N85/95, but after reading your post, I think I shall be better off saving some money!

Yes, Pixon is a good phone, but not my cup of tea! I want to stay away from L.G/Samsung's expensive offerings for now. Period.

n82 is damn good :hap2: n95 8gb is no match for it . n85 is a good match but it has build quality issues hence stay away from n85. The upcoming n86 will be a excellent alternative for n82, though u have to wait a month or two.

Thanks Yogi, so N82 it is according to you!
N86 seems good, but any idea about its aprox. pricing?

Also, E55 catches my eye, when is it due for a launch & what would be its aprox. price?

30,000 ... me too waiting fir N86

Thanks Giadu! ~30k will be a splurge! I'll feel comfortable upto 25k.
Thanks Yogi, yes ~25k for N86 would be cool!

BTW, Nokia launched N75 for ~26k. I guess this is steep for the handset.
But Im anticipating a fall in price of E90, as E75 offers similar options.

Any idea on E55's expected price & launch?
