Is it possible? i have sony HI-Fi which bought in 2003 but it cant play dvd's,mp3's :( can i convert it to VCD player cum mp3 or DVD/mp3 if possible i dont want another music system i want to continue with the current system. i got this hifi for 45k at that time.:ohyeah:

sony+mp3player = more trouble to many controls i mean first i have to turn on sony and then mp3 player. i want to keep this thing neat cant i just have mp3/dvd on sony kinda modding it a bit. or just vcd/mp3???

Some 5 years ago, a local TV repairman offered to convert my deck(played only CD-DA audio CDs) to a VCD compatible player(no DVD back then). I guess there are ppl who can still do it now but it would mean replacing the reader completely.

IMO, it's not worth it as your system seems quite costly and I'm guessing is a quality system. If you can afford it, stick to CD-DA. mp3s...well not worth it given the quality of output.

Also, for DVD/VCD playback, a cheap 4K-6K player would do and it would do it's job well. Just a suggestion...see if you can fit a glass shelf over your TV and place a new DVD player. There are some good philips players that can play DivX movies directly off a USB stick..no hassle with DVDs.

If i get it done at sony service center? will there be a problem? sony tech's can get the job done atleast i guess??? what say?

No.

You need a new mechanism (which may or may not fit the existing space), a new main board (which might not fit in the case in the first place and require cutting of the case) and maybe new power supply because voltage and current may or may not be possible.

On top of that your remote may not work because the remote chipset needs to interface with the DVD mechanism, and those are like 18 generations apart.

It's too complex, and may not work. Best to add a DVD player and hook up the line out to your hifi, like so many other suggestions.

yes i have done similar to my Thompson hifi ...line out from external source to aux-in of hifi

How old is this guy ?

Dude you might be better off just selling the system and getting a more "modern" one.

Don't muck about with it.

Not possible... do what others said... just buy any dvd player and connect it to the aux in of your audio system.

Hey dude, just buy a dvd player that can also play divx and mp3s n hook it up to ur sony hifi and thats the best fix like the others have suggested.Dont f**k up a perfectly working(assuming its workin alright) system and regret it later.U may end spending a lot more than on a decent dvd player.

ok now which dvd player should i get ??? should i wait for HD&BD player to come in market or should i buy a player now itself.please suggest me a player that can play all formats.and has lot of options.:P :P

There are lot of threads on this topic, please do search or else you can start a new thread.

HD @ Blue Ray players are costly and also the Discs. You mention your budget also then only others can help you.

The budget is 5k to 7k now i need all options like upscaling,USB,HDD attachable, optical in/out, options That’s What I’m Talking About. please add if I missed anything. Is this right time to buy a DVD player coz HD and blu ray players are released will DVD players obsolete in few months. i also heard lg is releasing combo player that can play HD and blu ray dvd's. im worried. :ashamed:
