hey! I saw this on reddit and I was the one who was asking about FK api and scrapping frequency. I have also started to work on something similar, a weekend project.

The site is good, but CSS needs to be improved. All the best!

Ah small world. Yeah css needs improvement , agreed . Do you think just improving the header would do? The rest looks fine to me.

Yes, it will surely make a big difference. As of now I would suggest to remove the logo and also the header image. Just use some good, simple font and just say 'Falling Prices'. You can also add a small text under it, some cool slogan.

and also the color choices/combinations are very bad imo. You can start with http://www.colourlovers.com/palettes for some good ideas.

Wow amazing. I love the interface. Just checked tablet section and Xolo play 8 gb is 10k now. Also ipad air and rmini also have reduced prices a bit.
Too good work.

This is so so amazing. I think this will do well. You should make it a bit nicer looking, and advertise it, to get traffic. Nice. Great job..!

I had thought of creating a price tracker - but seeing the terms, I didn't went ahead.
But I am not sure how Labnol's price tracker and India Book Store works.

I am not just saying this because its my site, but since I have been building this site, I have seen prices on laptops fall by Rs. 16000, from 49000 to 33000 in one day - they soon went out of stock!! So this IMHO could be potentially useful to some people
Cutebandar your monkey business ;) is really wonderful. Wishing you all the best.

I don`t have much knowledge of RSS feeds, but can you add to your site?

I am asking cause such deals goes OOS in few hours, it can be helpful for guy like me via RSS in outlook.

Good idea but implementation is bad. You're stealing bandwidth from flipkart by hot linking all images from them.
Using their images on your site is clear violation of their terms of service and copyright policy.
Its only a matter of time before they catch you and send a legal notice your way. Your site IP address must already be logged in their books by now. With more TE people visiting your site, more load on their servers.

arre pehle confirm to kar lete ilzaam lagane se pehle. I am not hot linking any images from them.
I download images while scraping (only the first time) and show those from my server.

I think rss feeds are not alllowed by flipkart terms of service. I do plan on adding some sort of notification though.

Make this logo as transparent PNG, the white edges looks very bad...Make this logo as transparent PNG, the white edges looks very bad...
Changed! New one looks much nicer, I think

Great site. You can make the presentation better though, but that's already been said. The UI could also be much better than what it is now. Team up with a web designer to make it appear more presentable.

Sorry about that. Can't see page source in mobile browser. Got the notion that you were hot linking images when I clicked on graphic card image (to see bigger image) and it opened in new tab with flipkart address.
Now I see its a link to buy from flipkart with an affiliate Id tagged on it.
Good luck with your shopping site.

Labnol's price tracker does violates the TOS :
while in the case of Flipkart, the prices are extracted from the Meta and Open Graph tags of their pages.

Since FK does not have any API, I am pretty sure India Book Store is also scrapping over HTTP. Highly unlikely that FK is giving them some private API.

Even I am building a price tracker. So what do I do? any inputs @cute.bandar ?

no worries

You do have 2 options
1) use the product feed that flipkart provides to affiliates . Register login as an affiliate to this option. Not sure if this option is available to every affiliate though..Of course you will still have to curl and POST your way to flipkart.com/affiliate to fetch the product feeds programmatically.

2) I asked flipkart about having an API and they emailed me that they team is working on this and we will be coming up with a programmatic API soon...So you could wait..

I would have gone with option 1 myself, but i had already wrote my scraper before I found out about the product feeds
