Hi all,

I have decided to go for the Intel Core i5 750 Processor. I am confused about the motherboard I should buy - some people say that this processor HAS to have a Graphics card with the configuration; some people say that it can run with a motherboard with built in graphics. With this in mind, I have narrowed the motherboard choices to the following:
  1. Intel DP55WB
  2. Intel DP55WG
  3. Intel DH55HC
  4. Intel DH55TC
  5. Gigabyte H55-UD3H
  6. Gigabyte H55M-USB3
My question is this: Do I REALLY have to buy a graphics card for this processor? I don't do intense gaming - I can live with on-board graphics until my pockets feel heavy again :bleh: ....

I have heard a lot of issues with ASUS boards - I'm not keen on getting ASUS. Any other boards that I may consider?

I have a strict budget of 6K for the board.

core i5 7xx does not have graphics on chip , u can run core i5 7xx with P55 and H55 both .btw no motherboard has onboard graphics , only if the processor has , mobo will give display .

i5 6xx got graphics but its only dual core and u can only get display on H55 using intergrated graphics , if u put on P55 u will need to put card .

Hi Vishi, I'm interested in the same config as you. Can you list the market prices of the processor and supported mobos?

Get a Gigabyte H55M-UD2H ~ 5.7k. It has got all solid caps.

As RoboGosht says with the newer procesors(core i-3,i-5 dual core) the IGP is integrated in the CPU and u will need H-55 mobo to use them. But the quad core i-5,i-7 do not have any IGP in them. U can use them with both H-55 and P-55 mobo but would need a GPU to connect ur display to.

Whats the overall budget and intended usage for this system?

I did some research and found out, as RoboGhost and DarkAngel mentioned, that all Core i5 7xx series processors do not have built in graphics capabilities. Thus one needs to buy a separate graphics card for 7xx processors. The following is a brief summary about i5 processors - as many people seem to have this confusion:

Core i5 7xx Series:
True Quad core - 4 cores in the processor
No Hyper Threading
8MB Cache
No Graphics support in processor - MUST buy separate card

Core i5 6xx Series:
Dual Core - 2 cores in the processor
Comes WITH hyper threading - so it gives a "feel" of 4 cores (each core hyper threaded)
4 MB Cache
Comes WITH graphics support in the processor - card is optional

That said, one can choose any motherboard for these processors, the H55 series or the P55 series.

Preferably, the H55 series are better suited to the Core i5 6xx processors as all these come with video support. The video support provided by these boards just acts as a "pathway"/pipe for the video signal from the i5 processor to the graphics output ports (VGA/DVI/HDMI)

The P55 series is better suited to the Core i5 7xx series of processor. These do not have any video support, but come with PCI Express x16 slots - on which we can use graphics cards of our choice.

So what happens when one mixes 7xx processor with H55 series boards? The answer is - there will be NO DISPLAY on the monitor. In this case, a graphics card (with DDR3 memory) has to be used. If you are not too much into gaming (but cant resist the odd gaming session once in a while), you can get a BASIC DD3 card for this setup - If I were in such a situation, and budget is limited, I'd got for the ATI HD 5450 DDR3 card with 1GB memory (approx INR 3400).

With this information, I visited SP road (BLR) today, and got some quotations for the above combinations. That will be posted in the right section in the forum .....
Cheers!!!
