HW monitor and core temp displays temps in varied values i.e. hw temps are somewhat higher. People hence prefer core temp.

You have to keep experimenting. Yesterday I busted my dear good old loyal phenom proccy sadly.
For it core temp was accurate.
Then I replaced the proccy with another phenom quad and for here HW monitor seems good. I tally bios temp and the app temps to decide.

It still a debate as to which one is accurate. Some say bios displays raw and very sensitive temps and app derive it from various sensors from mobo. While others argue the average is taken and displayed with some + - variance.

But maximum public prefer coretemp.
