cost of cat 5 cable needed

if you are going to connect two pc's 20mts apart then go with d-link some local ones wont work at that distance.

what? which cat5 cable would have problems connecting 2 computers 20 mts. apart? My only guess would be wrong or improper crimping!

I have used cheapo cables (5rs./mt) and connected > 100 computers over 150 mts. apart!

Personal exp : used 7bucks a meter cable to connect 2 PC's via a switch. Cable length some 70m IIRC (from 2nd floor to ground floor)

^^Improper crimping or bad switch.

I've used around 15m 5Rs/m cable at home without any problems.

i dont think that was a crimping issue as the guy i called for crimping tried around 5 connectors on both sides but still no use,than used the dlink one and it worked being crimped by the same guy,may be the wire would have been faulty,but it didnt matter much as the dlink one at that time was
13rs/m.

Yeah i use the DLINK ones [17 a meter] in ma house through a switch and all are about 10-20m apart. . and these wires keep coming under doors some and some of them now have even started to shed their covering ,but still give me no connection problem watsoever since 1n half year. . .actually i was disappointed with the quality of DLINK's 16 port switch so i would suggest CISCO's switch instead . .the connectors from DLINK do fine. . .

thanx guys..no switch involved in my case...a cable and two nic's will do the job..

i don't think u get standard 20 mt cable..in any case i needed crossover ones..so may b i can get it crimped at the shop itself
