Counter Strike Source not working

my bros copy of css is not working. steam starts up and when u open css, while the loading screen a error message ocuurs saying 'The Instruction at 0x####### referenced memory at 0x#######. The memory could not be read'

I am fed up of it. I tried everything i could find on Steam support and even reinstalled windows coz this is the only game my bro plays. :@ If sum1 wud be able to help me pls do.
 
I hav the latest Direct X and all latest drivers. This used to work b4 and one the day i changed the cabby and then it wasnt working.very strange. i tried a total reinstall of the game and even windows to know help. Tried changing patrts which i had spare like ram and hdd but still the same error.:@ Anybody any idea wut shud i do?
 
If you have o/c your system/gpu, then reset it to default and try.

Try running memtest to check if have memory errors.

Check for disk errors using chkdsk /f command.

Make sure your you have enuf disk space free. say atleast 2-4GB.

Also try loading the default settings of bios & try.

Also next time note the error in detail and does it happen only in CSS or other games too, does your system crash any other time ?
 
btw u said u reinstalled ur windows....so did u update the game after that...?

and also try running Hl2...see if tht runs fine ...
 
@ dipdude as you see i hav already formatted the system so it has a lot of space. its an 2yr old compaq system with 1GB ram and a new 6800gt so it cant be OC.

i have changed the ram with the one in my comp so it cant be a error in the ram. I dont know abt other games as my bro only plays css and hl2.

@ icefusion i did aten complete upda of css. HL2 also doesnt work but there is no error, it just starts and crashes on the loading screen.
 
ok tried memtest till 5000% and no errors so now wut?

this is getting so irratating and my bro now wants to change his comp altogether coz css doesnt work. sum1 help me pls
 
tried changing ram slots. does not work. 76 pages....shit. will try tht , thanx and

i will get the screenies in the morning
