CPU & MOBO & RAM - 3D modeling Rig - Suggestion Please

My friend owns a sony pc 8 years old. :crutch:

He works in Automobile modeling, his system hangs up nowadays when working at home, cause tech has moved on...:)

But he is very tight on budget and seeks to change CPU, Motherboard and RAM only, that too at as lowest budget as possible!:S:blushing:

I was thinking of AMD. Is Intel possible? Please offer your valuable opinion. Is Discrete GPU required for 3D?
