Old pc died :(

Seems to be some kind of mobo problem; pc not powering up - fan spins but no bios/display. Problem started with pc getting turned off randomly for 3-4 days. Initially thought that it was due to problem with PSU/UPS but it persisted despite changing both so now thinking of getting a new pc instead of getting worked up trying to fix the old one.

Windows 7

I'm hoping that there won't be any further price cuts in the coming 2-3 months for processors(until amd bulldozer releases) or I'll end up regretting getting the i5 2400 as ~10k for a processor is really a bit high for me. Will the i3 2100 be sufficient/more vfm(primary need for performance is in gaming)? I'd prefer a reliable mobo with good number of usb/sata ports(minimum 6 of each).

Also any idea how much the ram could sell for if I put it in the market?

Intel Core i5 2500 ~ 10.2k
MSI H67MA-E35 ~ 4.7k
Sapphire HD6850 ~ 9.5k
Corsair 2*2GB DDRIII 1333MHz ~ 1.9k

Total = 26.3k

I'd have suggested HD6870 but i'd not risk it on VX450 though the PSU might be capable to handle the card. :)

Intel Core i5 2400 ~ 9.2k
MSI H67MA-E35 ~ 4.7k
Sapphire HD6870 1GB GDDR5 ~ 11.4k (With the price cuts the HD6870 is good VFM :) IMO VX450 with its 33A is plenty to handle the HD6870)
Corsair 4GB DDRIII 1333MHz ~ 1.8k

Total: ~27k

Any alternatives to the MSI H67MA or is it the best one at that price? Ideally I'd like a board with more slots/ports but ~10k on a gigabyte z68 board seems a bit much for me as I don't plan to overclock the pc.

Also, any ideas on troubleshooting my old pc?
Symptoms;
- PC power goes off abruptly after 2-15 mins of operation(this happens even if I don't load XP, ie at paused at boot screen or in bios menu)
- Sometimes when powering it on only the hdd led turns on and the power led and the display does not come on. In this case only long press of power key cuts off the power (this usually happens just after above)
- PC speaker makes no beeping sounds at all
- Date/time and bios settings reset to default every 2-3 days or so for the past couple of months.

I've tried
- swapping RAM, PSU, UPS and power cord (all of which are verified to work without any problems on another pc)
- taking out the processor and plugging in back in
- leaving the PC turned off for a couple of hours before turning it on (this usually lets me use the pc for few mins)

...none of which have helped. From the above, I'm guessing that the problem lies either with the processor or the motherboard.

Yeah, MSI H67MA is the best VFM board with SATA3/USB3 but supports only 2 DIMMs + 1 PCI slot. Since you're not into overcloking that is why we suggested you this board.

Other options are

Asus P8H67 M PRO ~ 7.5k - 4 DIMMs + 2 PCI slots Asus P8H67 M PRO Sandy Bridge

Asus P8H67 M LE ~ 6.5k - 2 DIMMs + 2 PCI slots Asus P8H67 M LE

I suspect a PSU issue, can you try your PSU on other system if any.

Hmm... I checked wiki on capacitor leakage and the symptoms definitely seem to be similar(except I didn't get any bsods). I couldn't see any damaged capacitors on the mobo by looking though.

Also, I had been getting date/time reset warning as well as bios settings reset every other day or so for the past couple of months so I'll try buying a new cmos battery.

Some other guy with similar problem as me;
