Hey guys,

My friend was building a computer. Thought I'd ask for some advice.

Q: What is your budget?

1. 40K
Q: What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)

None

Q: Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)

1. Monitor - Phillips 19" (Serves him well so not interested in getting one.)

Q: Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.

1. CPU - AMD Phenom II X6 1055T

2. Motherboard - Asus M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3

3. GPU - MSI 5770

4. RAM - Gskill Ripjaws 1333 DDR3 4GB Kit

5. SMPS - Corsair VX550

6. HDD - Seagate Barracuda 1 TB.

Total comes to around 38,500/-

Q: Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component

Will be buying keyboard, mouse locally as well as good quality case. Rest no upgrades for around 2 years.

Q: Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)

Mostly Online Purchase.

Q: Would you consider buying a second hand hardware from the TE market

1. No.

Q: What is your intended use for this PC/hardware

1. Gaming

2. Browsing

3. Download rig, 24x7 operation

4. Watching HD movies

Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them and the reason for your preference/dislike.

Will like to buy a board with eSATA, plus USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0.

Q: If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?

FPS,Strategy,RPG.

Q: What is your preferred monitor resolution for gaming and normal usage

1. Gaming - 1440x900

2. Desktop - 1440x900

Q: Are you looking to overclock?

1. No

Q: Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?

1. Windows 7 64 bit

2. Linux - Ubuntu

-He'll be buying this PC first week of October. He will be mostly doing online purchase since most of the hardware mentioned is unheard of here. The problem is that wont the shipping cost a lot? He lives in Cuttack, Orissa.

-Will it cause any problems with the after sales service if I get stuff online?

-I know about everyone's aversion to Asus but thats the best board with USB 3.0 and Sata 6Gb I could find for that price.

Plus it has 2 x PCIe 2.0 x16.

-Also I choose to go with the 5770 since anything above that at the specified resolution is an overkill imo.

-I'd also like to know the Intel alternative.

Cheers.

1. CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 945 ~ 7k (Rs.100)

2. Motherboard - MSI 880GM-E45/Gigabyte 785GMT-USB3 ~ 5.7k (Rs.150)

3. GPU - MSI Cyclone 768MB GTX460 ~ 11.5k (Rs.150) Go for it as u are going to use the card for 2-3 years. Still if u feel its an overkill then go for the MSI HD5770 Hawk.

4. RAM - Gskill Ripjaws 1333 DDR3 4GB Kit ~ 4.6k (Rs.75)

5. SMPS - Corsair VX550 ~ 4.8k (Rs.200)

6. HDD - Seagate Barracuda 1 TB ~ 2.9k (Rs.100)

Total: 36.5k (Rs.750-Rs.850 shipping)

Why do u need 2*PCI-E x16 when u are not gonna upgrade for 2 years. Anyways by then 28nm fab GPUs would be there and much more powerful single cards available making CrossfireX of HD5770 worthless.

The boards that i have mentioned too have USB 3.0 and even most SSD's aren't pushing the SATAII(3Gbps) limits yet. The MSI mobo too has SATA 6Gbps if u need it.

If u want Intel then u can consider the Intel i-5 760 ~ 10.2k + Gigabyte H55M-UD2H ~ 5.7k. If u want USB 3.0 then the the Gigabyte H55M-USB 3.0 ~ 7.3k

Wherever u buy the hardware from u are going to give it to the particular service center for after sales service.

Chk this thread for service center for various brands

The problem isn't lack of choice. It's the lack of availability. I agree with you about the SATA 6.0Gb/s but I think the USB 3.0 support might be good. I'd be very thankful if you linked me to the place from where you quote your prices. I'm open for purchase from SMC and ITWares. But I do prefer ITWares.

I got this build there.

1 x AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor (HDZ955FBGIBOX) = Rs.8,100.00/-

1 x CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX 450W ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Certified SMPS (CMPSU-450VX) = Rs.3,500.00/-

1 x GIGABYTE GA-785GMT-USB3 AM3 AMD 785G HDMI USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard (GA-785GMT-USB3) = Rs.5,850.00/-

1 x MSI R5770 Hawk Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card (R5770 Hawk) = Rs.9,200.00/-

1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (ST31000528AS) = Rs.3,250.00/-

------------------------------------------------------

Sub-Total: Rs.38,225.00/-

PRODUCT WISE SHIPPING (Product Wise Shipping Only) + Shipping Table Rate (DTDC/TNT Air Shipping (Normally Product Reaches in 2-3 Days Max)): Rs.950.00/-

Total: Rs.39,175.00/-

How does this look everyone? I'll buy a DVD Writer and Case locally for him. His actual budget is 45k but I'm reserving 6k for those two. I might try my hand at a slight overclocking without increasing the voltage.

Oh and his resolution is 1366x768. I really think a 5770 should suffice for a while and if he wants a little more performance I can always overclock it slightly :)

If ur getting a single card spend a little more and get the GTX 460 instead...

Stick to 1333Mhz ram... the difference is negligible... save cash here...
