Hi
I am looking to upgrade my comp... currently i have AMD 3200 processor, 1 gb ram .. and Gigabyte motherboard.

If i buy CPU E4400 - (2MB L2 cache 2.00Ghz 800MHz FSB) then which motherboard would be compatible.

I want to buy 8600GT or above later.

Get a P35 based motherboard like Biostar TP35D2-A7 or ABIT IP35-E. :D

The former costs around 5k, and IP35-E for a few more, I'd assume.

And do you already have DDR2 RAM?

which socket is it?
if it's socket 939 or AM2, then just put in a new dual core processor.
Does your current m'b have an AGP or Pci-express slot?

My current rig,

No i don't wanna overclock. Just thought of keeping up wid the times and upgrade. I am not sure about the current RAM .. should be DDR1 ..
But will a E440 CPU, 1gb DDR2 & New motherboard (not decided) be a good upgrade option from my current one.

Budget not a criteria ...but i don't want fancy stuff (read top end), just gr8 value for money .. not looking for SLI ..

BASICALLY want to keep the PC up-to-date for my GAMING needs ...

Since u dont wanna o'clok and ur rig shud be up-2date.. I suggest u get the P35 boards from aBit or ASUS.. aBit retails @ 5.5k... The p35E...

Get an E6550 proccy.. Which's better than the e4400 @ stock speeds..
Agreed u wudn o'clok but if ur mobo supports it. why not go tat xtra mile to gain its full potential???

And 2GB 800 is becomin the bare minimum these days FYI...

better go wid any Athlon 64 X2 cpu's if ur mobo is fine......Athlon 64 X2 4800/5200+ @ arnd 5k/6k wud be a nice choice......i guess !!

hi Grrh
I seem to be in the same situation as you.
i have 3200+ and ASUS A8N-E with 1Gig ram

Im thinking of upgrading to C2D E6300/6550 + ASUS P5B (to support upgrade to quad core in future)

Guys is this s good choice....I always liked ASUS boards...very stable in OC with stock cooling

P5B's gettin outd8d as of now... 965 chipset... the P35's out... X38.. G33...

Consider gettin d P5K series.. P5K-C or somethin ~...

C2D E6300-Ther again.. Its outd8d... 1333Mhz FSB proccy'sre out... Get the E6550....

And btw aBit P35-E is better than the 650i ultra... Support fer Penryns...

@gannu..

saw your post and did a bit of googling... and found nothing to support your claim on 650i ultras nd the penryns...

do u have a link to substantiate the same?

^^^P35 chipset has support for penryns.. Tats a fact!!!

And my claim tat its better than 650iu is coz its an outd8d chipset considewring the P35... It wont support the 65nm Penryns... Simple...

Yep P35 boards are the latest and will stay for some time but its a bit costly for now.
Ill be landing up in Singapore and by the look of it things are cheaper there although not as cheap as US maybe. Only issue is the warranty.
Ill see if i can get a good deal on the Gigabyte DS4 maybe or the Abit P35
