CPU/Mobo Cpu's Fan is Nuts!

My Phenom II X6's fan has gone insane. Running greater than 5500RPM all the time sometimes reaching 6.5k even when my CPU's Temperature is 40-45c. I can understand the rpm while gaming but even at idle or watching movies with CPU's temp not even going above 50c always around 48c.

I asked a couple of TE mates and Searched a bit, found out that all x6's stock fans are not good, But still is there any way to lower the fan speed please let me know. I've tried Setting Q-fan mode to silent No HELP. When Disabled on Start-Up, the fan goes nuts seriously >6600RPM all the time! But i can use speed fan with it and i tried Using Speed Fan, Helped but i have to do it manually all time. During Start-up 6700RPM it is at least then everytime again and again i have to lower the speed. Please help me on this.

If nothing helps then i will think of buying an aftermarket cooler, but i got no money right now wasted all up. On GPU,PSU etc etc Max i can manage is 2k.

if there is any aftermarket cooler within that range please let me know. But buying is the latter i am more concerned about finding out any possibility without spending any money right now if the fan speed can be controlled. Thanks a lot.

That is an 800 Mhz overclock on 6 core processor. Not at all advisable with a stock cooler. Get a Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo from here.

That should solve your issues.

Which sunbeam cooler ? CCF 120 should do, but if you are in for a new cpu cooler i would strongly recommend the Hyper 212 Evo

Either the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO OR Noctua NH-U12P SE2.

The Noctua cooler gets the top honours because of their support team, they will ship any components that you require like mounting kits free of charge as long as you have proof of purchase.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

Ok then will go for the Evo. Currently out of budget will buy it in a 2 weeks or later. Thanks

#[member='ALPHA17'] the cooler you mentioned is currently out of my budget.

Just a suggestion Sire, the Noctua isn't a must buy. I would have recommended you go for the ThermalRIGHT Cogage True Spirit, but it is only available in its 1366 avatar here in India. It beats the pants of the Hyper 212 [series] and closes with the Noctua on several occasions.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

Listen my temperature is not increasing even while playing crysis @everything max it reached 62c max as far as ive seen. So do i need to upgrade. I mean i am just upgrading because of the noise. Plus nobody got an option how to lower the fan speed?

If Noctua is worth the wait(will buy in May most prob). Then should i wait?

I did not intend it from the sole point of view of cooling your processor. The ThermalRIGHT is the cheapest of the draw and the most effective price / performance.

The noise, I have a Phenom IIx4 965 and I understand the issue. Go for the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO and in the BIOS switch the fan speed to PWM mode, this will allow the motherboard to transmit signals to the fan depending on the temperature of the PC.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

Okay thanks will go with the hyper 212 EVO most prob this month. Thanks for the reply.

Will consult through PM after installing.

LOL Same issue with friends X4 955 on the same board. I tried getting AMD overdrive to control the fan , cool n quiet settings nothing worked now ive told him to get a aftermarket cooler since this seems a very common issue with AMD coolers. His fan sits at 5800 rpm sounding like a jet even though temps are 48-52 @ stock speed. I dropped vcore manually also to see if it would help but to no avail.

Atleast it keeps the temperatures within respectable limits, the stock Intel cooler drives the owner nuts with wonky temperatures all over.

LOL people getting worried about temps with intel stock cooler prolly havent installed it properly or are paranoid. I would rather have 5-10 degrees more on the cpu than a fan that howls for no reason 24 7 because the bios is shit and cant regulate fan speed like it should. I wasnt surprised with my friends predicament and was frustrated that AMD overdrive and bios settings failed so hard. To be expected from AMD i guess.

Enable amd cool n quite in bios and your fan will spin within 3500rpm Try this first. else just change your fan and not the heatsink for the while.

No that didnt work for me , didnt work for OP and prolly doesnt work for most people looking at all the various threads on the internet concerning this topic.

I quoted it before. It did'nt helped. I will go for that evo in a few weeks because i dont see any other option

Well I digress on this point Sire, the AMD stock cooler is a better design than Intel [apart from the tiny 70mm fan], the pressure applied on the processor is more even and better focused than the push-pin system implemented by Intel.

Also from the design principle the Intel cooler has problematic push-pins which do not behave well at all, I know this because I have a Intel Pentium D 915, the push-pins do not entire the holes and very often get wedged half in half out of the hole. It is a royal mess to get the system to work properly.

While on my AMD Phenom IIx4 965 B.E. the stock cooler is a delight to use, simply because it is so much more easier on me and doesn't fake that it has been placed properly if it has not been fit properly [it reminds me of my old Pentium 4 m478 socket].

Intel push pin setup sucks i agree, there have been times when I could never figure out how the hell to get it to sit tight and proper. Nothing wrong with the AMD cooler am sure its very capable the problem is with the MB bios not regulating fan speed thats all.

Yes. Amd latch/lock system is very much effective as it actually mounts the hsf precisely over the processor. Dont know why intel still prefers the age old 775 socket drills which always carry the danger of tiltedly seated hsf mounted on the proccy. The 4 screw lock design on intel is literally hopeless design as compared to amd's single latch lock system which does a pretty descent job and is winner imho.
