Any suggestions/ sources to get it done cheaper in Mumbai... even if it voids the warranty

24000 /- is too much

OMG!! 11k for repair....
don't they have replacable warranties by wich they replace the laptops?
wat if a company don't have that? can we get a warranty from any other company?

Why so surprised?

the LCD is one of the most expensive components in a laptop...hell, even a dekstop LCD would be at least 6-7K

got it replaced at lamington rd for 10.5k with 6 months warranty on screen...
to my surprise toshiba uses lg-philips lcds for their laptops.. i believe this is the case with most laptop cos which don't manufacture their own lcds...

There are not too many LCD manufacturers as setting up LCD plants is very expensive...

so most TVs, LCD displays and laptop lcd's come from 4-5 manufacturers like

lg-philips, Auo, Samsung, Chi-Mei etc.

Not just LCD screens, you would be surprised to know hardly any company makes its own Laptops. Most laptops are made by OEM manufacturers such as Compal, Clevo, Asus etc under contract.
