About three days ago , I restarted my laptop and it failed to boot. On several repeated attempts to boot, I noticed that there was a point till which it used to boot after which it would just freeze. When I tried to boot in safe mode , the screen always froze when the "CRCDISK.sys" driver would appear on the screen.

I've encountered this problem before on a desktop and had resolved it by changing the primary hard disk to secondary and vice versa.

As of now, I'm totally clueless about how to go about the problem. Please advise.

Okay.. this is pretty interesting. I Booted into the system using the Ubuntu Live CD and I couldn't access the only partition I had on Vista. Does this error have something to do with the hard disk not functioning properly?

boot from vista installation media (or resque media if u got one wid ur lappy) n enter repair mode...try to repair from there.
