I have an old Creative SB Live Value sound card lying around. I guess this would still give a better sound than on-board? Or is it not worth now?

My concern is that even if I plug it in, there are no official drivers for Vista. Im not sure if any of the modded drivers work well.

So should I put it to some use?

Creative Sound Blaster Live Value is more than 105dB SNR as compared to the shitty onboard sound ~70dB SNR (realtek) ~85dB SNR (for high-end)..

Im using SB Live n the comparison with mobo audio is simple.

Heaven vs Hell :)

Daniel K drivers FTW.

i see they have only live! drivers. even creative supports live cards for vista.

but problem is with live value. ill plug it in first to see if i get any sound.

oh yes, it should work in linux as well, currently on mandriva 2009.

I am using these on my Audigy Value. :ashamed:

Microsoft has provided drivers for Vista & they do detect creative card but the downside is that it only works in 2.1 mode not 4.1.

I tried KX project drivers but they dont work for "Live! Value" cards they work only for Live! cards, I tried on vista x64

What is the model number of the card you have? It should be printed on the top edge of the board.

The 4830/4832 are actually very decent cards if you use the rear output. I sold a very heavily modded 4832 card to SunnyBoi, ask him for his opinion. The rear output uses a proper Philips 'bitstream' DAC, and even before modding is capable of very nice performance, more so than the front outs.

I used to use the kxdriver and a small routing file to allow me most of what a media player needs.

And yes, it was a Live! Value card, the kxdrivers uses the APU to determine support. All 10K1 cards are supported.
