Creative Announces Zen Stone "iPod Shuffle Killer":ohyeah:

In a move to thwart Apple and the diminutive 2G iPod shuffle, Creative (who just announced its first iPod accessory line) has just announced the Zen Stone. A screenless unit like the shuffle, the Zen Stone is able to playback songs in linear fashion or shuffled at random. The unit sports 1GB of flash RAM storage, supports MP3, WMA, and Audible playback formats, and provides up to 10 hours of playtime. Creative is offering the Zen Stone in 6 glossy colors: black, white, green, blue, red, and pink. And most importantlty, the Zen Stone goes for $39.99, $40 cheaper than the iPod shuffle.

The Zen Stone will hit the shelves on May 14th, with a number of Creative accessories following over the next few months. Among them is the TravelSound Zen Stone, a portable speaker dock offering 20 hours of playback on two AA's.

Without an on-screen interface (or a screen, for that matter) to mimic, Creative may have, in the Zen Stone, its most compelling iPod alternative. Will Creative put Apple between a...Stone...and a hard place, with this latest?
