A freind of mine wants memory for his new rig based around a A8N-SLI Premium.

As Newegg doesn;t ship to India, I suggested Crucial. He told me to select a model for him and this is what I've selected.

Crucial part number BL2KIT6464L505

Please tell me whether this RAM is good for OC'ing (He's buying a 3500+ Venice) and what chips it uses. The latency is 2.5-4-4-8

Are these sticks as good as OCZ or Patriot ?

The Asus SLI boards have major issues with crucial... esp if you are planning on buying ballistix. He can go for MSI instead as it has no issues and crucial doesn't need high voltages. That RAM is good btw. However you could instead try and get the PC4000 memory (would cost a total of 10$ more). Most of them do 2.5-2-2 @ 250 MHz at relatively low voltages.

Yes Chaos, I have edited the link now, I picked Ballistix Tracer PC4000 DDR500...

Ok thanks for the info, Crucial on its site says that the RAM is OK for the A8N-SLI Premium cause I checked it using the memory upgrade tool on the site...

Edit :

This is what he's looking at :
3500+ (Venice)
A8N SLI Premium (already bought)
1GB Crucial (if compatible)
XFX 6800U (already bought)
BenQ 1640 (already bought)
Antec P160 (already bought)

Though its the 1GB stick, I guess similar issues might arise! If your friend is not an overclocker, ask him to get 2*1GB of crucial value instead for that budget. They are nothing but the same as the 1GB tracers without the speed binning and fancy lights. 1GB may not be enough in the near future. Most 1GB value sticks easily do 250@ 3-3-3 latencies. (Mine are superpi 4M stable at 275 ;))

Edit: The 1GB sticks are way overpriced at crucial's site though... :( Didn't see that before! They are 100$ at newegg

Ok now this is confusion !

Now this system is going to be overclocked. 1GB x 2 is too expensive for now I think he'll settle with 512 x 2...

Also Chaos what chips are Crucial sticks based on ? BH-5 ?

Its based on Micron -5BG. Doesn't require high voltages like BH-5 sticks to shine.

Hmm, OK that good. I'll let him know about it, but can you confirm its performance with the A8N SLI Premium.

Its 512 x 2 Tracers...

Can't say for sure... I've only read the 1GB sticks having issues. The 1G stick that i have overclocks insanely for value ram so i guess the ballistix shud do even better! They are based on different chips so maybe the 512MB doesn't have issues as the ram advisor or whatever crap says its compatible! BTW save money and buy the yellow ones. They are exactly the same spec as tracers. The only thing extra in the tracers is the LEDs which actually might cause some issues when using voltage higher than 2.8V. (in worst case, they may burn)
