The Fiio is a more neutral DAC. The udac has an exaggerated mid bass and a slightly exaggerated treble.

However the udac has a better amp for driving full sized cans.

The uDAC's line out isn't as coloured as the headphone out .Anyways E7 looks like the one for him since its cheaper and he doesn't need headphone out .I am just not sure how detailed E7 is , still see mixed reviews about it :P

^ Isn't it similarly price now? E7 is listed at Rs. 3995 from Lynx (and that should be without tax + shipping?) and uDAC is Rs. 4,200 from Vijay.

Well ,

Its a Matter Of Taste And Once hearing preference To Music

Have an E7

Never heard uDac

e7 is a good DAC. My re1 show good details with it though re1 itself are not very detailed.

its my opinion. Urs may differ

@op,

May be you should try a E7 and see how it goes. If it does not work out (which I doubt), you can always use it for your portable rig or sell it here.

I read Headfonia's uDAC review. One of the DACs in comparison, Carat UD-1 seemed like a perfect fit. There are issues with it's Headphone out, but the DAC section itself is better. However, I could not find this particular model on eBay; only higher end models of StyleAudio Carat.

The other good options are - Audinst HUD-MX1 for $180 or HRT MusicStreamer II (Not the +) for $149. Both require stretching the budget and importing.

Ive an E7. It sound really nice with my AD700 and SHP8900. UDAC has an upper hand with more powerful output, but is pointless for AE5 or any speakers.

I guess, you will be looking for a neutral sound, as its AE5 you have chosen. So E7 is the best option. You wont go wrong with uDAC either, bit its bit bright and colored, and many likes it over all neutral.

RE 1 is a power hog feed it with how much power u can then it will shine and more power=more detailing .I haven't heard of E7 so cant comment as to it can power it or not .

Well. By powerful output, i mean how hard it can drive a high impedance low sensitivity can. E7 surelly can drive most HPs, but i doubt anything above 120~150 Ohm. Heard uDAC can drive much harder. But this is pointless, if its supposed to be used with a sub 150 Ohm HP.

And Im really thankful to you, for helping me get an E7 :). There was no other way of sourcing it that easily.

Members which DAC would you recommend budget around 5k will be using them with A5's.
You'd be better off with upgrading your music source first by using uncompressed files. A DAC is not going to help you in any way with regular MP3 files.

Well most of my music collection is in Flac format or above 256kbps Mp3 files .
