We have 8 pc's on a LAN here and i was wondering if we can get two BSNL dataone connections, would it be possible to have 4-4 pc's sharing each connection and still be on the same network?

If so, how would this be possible?

Thanks in advance.

i think u'll need 2 hubs for that
or u can try changing the ip of 1 modem and change the default gateway of 4 comps to that modem

If u are not on a BSNL business plan then they wont allow u to connect to multiple PC's from their router. Though u can do one thing. U can set two machines as gateways to the other three. U will need the two machines with two lan cards each.

Though this is how i have connected my web and file servers at home.

Though if there is any other method i would surely like to know. :)

Cant we simply put both the wires coming from BSNL modem into our switch and configure 4 PC s each on the 2 MODEMS!!!

Also We asked the person @ BSNL 's office... AND they said you can easily connect more than ONE comp on their line!!!

We had inquired about their HOME UL 900 Plus plan!!!...But we said that we have 8 comps so we need 2 lines!!!

So they agreed for it!!!

Ps:I am on the SAME network AS Amaresh...

Check the docs. They mention multiple connections allowed or not.

BTW u can plug 4 comps into the router they provide, but how will u dial from 4 comps with the same user and pass for 1 connection ??

Dont know about ur area but BSNL in my area do not allow multiple logins from the same user on Home Plan. Though i must say i could do it earlier, 6 months ago.

if you are using the type 3/4 modem that has 4 lan ports, you can easily configure multiple connections by making the modem autodial and then connect a pc to each of the lan ports.that way, no pc will depend on the other for a onnection.the modem will dial and connect as soon as it is switched on, and the pc connected to it will be online as soon as you turn it on.

i think dataone has adsl modems .. the beetel ones

he can plug them directly to the hub and use them .. there should'nt be any problem cause i have tried it

i am not sure about changing the ip of 1 modem.. its worth a shot

theoretically it should work

I'd suggest you get a good ADSL2 Modem/Router and a switch (both Gb capable, assuming u have Gb NIC's). Enable NAT on your router and if possible upgrade to DataOne 1Mbps BW (Rs. 3300/- pm) or more.
