Strange problem, need help. Guys came and installed new Hospital Management Software, and they said that they have to have the region preference set as US, where date shows as month/date/year. With the setting like this the software prints out the Indian format of dd/mm/yy. So, all is fine with the software but it's a pain to use Excel. Anyway that I can change the date format locally only for Excel?

Right click on the cell or column. Format cells. Choose Custom. You should see an option for: dd-mm-yyyy.

I know that, but don't want to have to do that every time. I wanted to know if I can make Excel use Indian formating on the whole if the Windows region setting is set for US.

One roundabout way. I remember trying to do this for a customer in EU, found a solution online. Open a blank excel file and change all cells to have the date format you need. Save the file as a template 'Book.xltx'. If you copy that file into 'C:\Program Files\MSOffice\Office15\XLStart\', that template will open whenever you launch Excel. You can use that for your default starting workbook.
