Two days ago,i bought a cooler master real power pro 460w and it worked for few hours. But it just turned of while using the pc yesterday.now its not turning on.the psu fan, case fan etc will spin for just a second and will turn off.Is the psu dead or is it some safety feature on it thats stops it from working.my old iball psu is working fine.
is there anything i can do except RMAing it? please advice.

Disconnect all the power cables from the PSU and short terminals with green 'PWR ON' and the adjacent black wire 'GND' on the 24pin ATX power connector. If the fan spins, the PSU works just fine. See if the fan shuts down itself after sometime as you have claimed. The fan should not stop completely since this is not a feature present in coolermaster power supplies AFAIK.

If it does, get it replaced. If it doesn't something must be wrong with the motherboard.

i did what you said. i shorted the terminals.the psu fan will move just a little bit and will stop in an instant.think i should replace it.feel really unlucky :(

You know what this method wont work in cooler master real power pro. I bought the same cooler master Real power pro 750 watts when i was in the US and i did not have any system to check whether the PSU was DOA or not. I tried shorting the pins, but the fan will just show a small movement... thats all.. i thought that its DOA and call up the customer service folks in US...

They said shorting the pins would not make the PSU to work, especially cooler master need to have a load so that the PSU starts...

What am i trying to say here is shorting on PSU pins wont work in the recent power supplies with 80 plus efficiency rating... Came back to India.. connected it to my Rig... Voila..... it works like charm and its almost 2.5 yrs now.. working without a hitch

there is nothing to worry for now, the coolermaster real power pro cannot be tested by shorting the pins. Even i experienced the same.... The fan will just show a small movement for a fraction of second when you short the pins. The PSU is not dead for sure....

Did you check whether the Red LED glows at the back of the PSU when you have this problem? if yes then there is a shortcircuit problem in your electrical supply. Check whether you have proper Grounding as well.

Check for all these and take it up for RMA

but here Cooler Master Customer Service it says about the green and black wire.Besides that,it is not working when connected to the motherboard.my iball psu is working fine.so it can only be a dead psu.will take it to dealer and see what happens.

i appreciate the help amd999:)
