Dear Esther
is a ghost story, told using first-person gaming technologies. Rather than traditional game-play the focus here is on exploration, uncovering the mystery of the island, of who you are and why you are here. Fragments of story are randomly uncovered when exploring the various locations of the island, making every each journey a unique experience. Dear Esther features a stunning, specially commissioned soundtrack from Jessica Curry.

Forget the normal rules of play; if nothing seems real here, it’s because it may just be all a delusion. What is the significance of the aerial – What happened on the motorway – is the island real or imagined – who is Esther and why has she chosen to summon you here? The answers are out there, on the lost beach and the tunnels under the island. Or then again, they may just not be, after all…

Gamespot Review : http://asia.gamespot...review-6349936/

Its out on steam on Feb 14th ... need to get my hand on this one.

#krugur, any idea what's changed from the free version which was out before on Desura.com?

Nope just saw this one on gamespot. Looked nice and they have given a gud review. Checked online and people has nice words about it. So planned to give it a go. Just as soon as i finish skyrim

Seems the visuals have been jacked up. The original one used the Source engine. Just checked. Oh and this is a must play for folks who like something different from the usual genres. I'm going to give it a try when I find some spare time.

Completed the title yesterday. It must not have lasted beyond 2 hours and there's nothing much the player could do in the game other than explore the island through a pre-laid path. He cannot jump, no sprinting, no weapons, no enemy AI, no interactions of any sort - simple walking. THAT. IS. IT.

But while we are at it, we could really appreciate the beautifully crafted outdoor environments (thanks to the Source engine) and the subtle background tracks being played with sounds of the nature such as the seagulls circling by the shore of the island, the sounds of the sea waves hitting the shore etc. Hats off to Jessica Curry for a brilliant work on the sound composition. The occasional narrative during the playthrough that happens at random locations also gives a short insight on the background but mostly incomplete and sometimes confusing. The ending has been altered from the previous Source mod version.

I wouldn't call this a game though. More like a tech. demo. but very good nonetheless. These are the same guys who'd be giving us Amnesia 2 in sometime so I am counting on them!

Finished this game myself as well.

The graphics was really good and the source engine was really well-used. I've always admired the source engine's very non-demanding water effects. The music was well-composed too.

But maybe my intellect isn't advanced enough, but I just couldn't understand or appreciate the writing and narration. It was just too random and confusing for me.

Finished it .. well as Gannu told took around 2 hrs ... The game looks awesome ... but the plot is a bit confusing ... if i am right i understood what happened to esther ... but still no idea wht is actually the happening in the game ... or i might be thinking too much.

Loved how they have made the island but could have be better with some tesselation. Actually, the whole thing reminded me of stalker.

i think then its better to play silent hill than this.

It doesn't make sense comparing Dear Esther and Silent Hill or any other survival horror title for that matter. This game serves as a sort of tech demo for a very short duration and portrays the capabilities of the Source engine. Add some narratives, sounds and BGM, you get Dear Esther.

You want a horror title that will make you pee your pants, play the more recent Amnesia: The Dark Descent. You haven't seen or played survival horror titles unless you've played this one. A sequel is in the works slated for release by the year end.

^+1 to that! Amnesia is the only and the most horrifying game i've ever played. Rest all were ok ok but amnesia the games makes you wonder what would you do if you were in that position!

But didnt tried the full game yet. Will try someday.

Anyways I am planning to try this one. After that I will post my final comments.

Just finished playing this now.Its not a game as such it's a visual novel and every reader will have a semi-randomly unique experience.

I have to say I wasn't sure what to make of the story so I read the plot on wikipedia after playing it and I think there are a few things that misled me from the start,

1.Esther is a female name and unfortunately I didn't know this,so I thought some of the characters were homosexual

2.The story is a little vague and its up to the reader/gamer to come to their own conclusions

This game is phenomenal wow!I am using the word "phenomenal" because it is completely different from others. If you are tired after a hard days work and want something light to sooth your mind then this game is perfect for you.Even the word game is a bit of misleading. Its something different.

If you love stalker you will love this.Wonderful atmosphere and music!
