Decide on 32" LCD & Set top box

Hey guys,

I am confused between two sets of 32" LCD TV's

1. Sony V Series

KLV-32V300A/B

2. Samsung Series 4

LA32A450C1

The Samsung has a better contrast ratio and a Clear panel which looks really good when compared with a Sony kept side by side.

But i am worried about the life of both the TVs. Which would be better?

Moreover, most of the time i would be watching TV, so which one would be better as for the quality - Tatasky or Dishtv?

Currently i am using Tatasky on a 19" and it looks fine. Isn't both the quality same?

Also considering the free set top box offer from dishtv, i am tempted to go for Dish but have questions about the quality on a 32".(Free connection with 6 months connection saves me 2500 on DishTV).

Plz help me out in choosing the best options in TV and set top box.

Bye.

yeah.. best is hitachi.. else sony i think

also if possible u should wait for a month or so for the sat box cause reliance should be out any time now since they wer only waiting for rains to test their services durin rain.. that should be done by now!

In my opinion, you have to take certain important factors in mind before choosing your 32 inch LCD.

1. Seeing is believing - Hitachi, Tosh, Sharp etc might have cutting edge technology when it comes to panels etc. Dont let these influence you. Keep the models you have chosen side by side and see for yourself. Most of the showrooms have a Tatsky/Dish installed and so shouldnt be a problem. Go for the one that has the best picture according to you ! Everything else is immaterial.

2. After sales service - Dont underestimate the importance of a well organised and established after sales service set up.

I picked up a 5 series ( LA32550P) recently for 52 K after checking the Hitachi/Sharp.Toshiba and Sony because I really liked what I saw ( the picture) and its a fact that Samsungs service quality is excellent.

The 4 series that you are talking about is an excellent TV and has got rave reviews as a value for money piece in every other gizmo website including PC world/ cnet reviews etc in the US. You cant go wrong with it.

Cheers, and the decision of course is yours !

P.S I use my 5 series 32 with a Hathway cable set top box and the pictures are amazing. Cant wait for Reliance Big though. Should be fantastic.

well about the STB i suggest u to wait until dth providers start giving HD channels,i already have BIG tv which has component out, other manufactures might launch stb with HDMI and built in dvrs so wait before u go for another stb, since u already have tata sky wait until they launch HD stbs.
the samsung have a glossy panel so beware of the glare thats the main reason i didnt buy a samsung, also look for tvs like panasonic tx-32LX700 ,sony KLV-32W400A.check out the grey market the sony KLV-32v300A costs 41k in grey & sony KLV-32W400A costs 54k in grey.

^^ Does the component out provide better output compared to composite of Tata sky. If so, I might plan on shifting from tata sky to big tv when it comes out!!!

well yes the the colors are better and the tv shows displays the resolution as 576i,its definetly better then the composite out of big tv,but cannot coment on tata sky,but i have to tell u that the STB gets hot and the software in the stb is still in beta stage,so the stb hangs quite a lot.

but IMO waiting is a better idea one reason is that tata sky is soon going to change to MPEG4 so they will change all the stb, also TS users can buy a HD stb priced from 4000 to 6000.do note that tata sky has the most number of trasponder at 12 so they have the capacity to give more no of channels then BIG tv which has 8 transponders.

Thanks everyone for ur replies.

Yesterday, i went to Croma and like saw every 32" side by side both on HD and normal tata-sky.
The best ones picture quality wise were Samsung and Sony. Sony looks a bit natural on the colour front like skin tones etc. But guys, i am getting the Samsung for 9K less than Sony. I also read reviews of Series 4 LCD TVs and they are good and it's definitely not worth going for Sony by paying 9K extra.
So, probably, i would definitely be going along with Samsung.

Now as for DTH, i called BIG TV but they still don't have any idea about the launch date and whether it would be a nationwide launch or metros launch only.
Also, it uses MPEG4 which has more compression artifacts as compared to MPEG2, so Tata Sky should be better than BIG TV but why everyone's sayin that BIG TV would be better. If so, would it be a noticeable difference.

And no one's talkin of DishTV. Is it not good?
Also heard that DishTV is going to launch it's own satellite, so there should be a boost in quality.

The 4 series should be a good buy.

For the stb, you could go in for a service provider who has a "component in" in the stb, as its going to make a huge defference to the picture quality. As of now, only Big's STB's have this feature. I am sure tatasky will follow suit. Since the DTH space is just about hotting up, makes sense to wait for things to settle down and there is a clear winner emerging.

Tatasky with enhanced mpeg4 and a stb with comp in could be the winner, in my opinion.
