Re: Dedicated iOS apps, games & themes Thread.

The apps I use and my opinions on them, in no particular order. (JB - JailBreak, IS - Icon in Settings)

Current iPhone Version - 16GB FU

Current iOS version - 4.2.1 JB

Cydia (JB) - Needs no introduction.

WinterBoard (JB) - Again, needs no introduction.

My Football - For all kinds of football related updates, especially relatively immediate notification of goals scored in the matches of the teams you select. Love the app when I can't see a match for some reason.

Mobile Maps - The best voice guided navigation software for India that I have found till date. On the iPhone, the GPS lock is almost instantaneous.

Waze - Its a good voice guided navigation software which is FREE. Enough said :P

SoundHound - A song recognition software which works better than Shazam, I have both.

Pano - This software is the best photographic software available for the iPhone to take panoramic pictures. The end result is pretty good. Tried and tested of course.

Next Episode - Need this app to know when the next episode of my favorite shows is going to be aired.

Tapatalk - No introduction needed.

IM+ Pro - An IM app which covers a lot of IM clients. Sort of useless now since I have a BB now. But its a good apps which gives you instant mail notifications.

Find iPhone - Find your iphone through GPS if you lose it.

aTube and mxTube (JB) - Available on cydia, need these apps to download videos on youtube.

Photogene - A pretty decent photo editor.

Talking Tom - Use it to irritate the people who are talking to you on the phone or otherwise, it changes the pitch and repeats the words it hears.

DocsToGo - Your doc(x)/xls(x)/ppt(x)/etc viewer and editor. can also upload files to a cloud. Very convenient when on the move.

Whatapp - iPhones version of BBM. Its a multi platform messenger which uses small amount of GPRS data to send IMs to anyone who is in your friend list and has this app on their phone. Location does not matter. Very convenient for chatting with people in other cities/countries.

Starwalk - Relatively accurate star chart, shows what you are looking at (stars, galaxies, etc) when you point its camera to the sky. Good for stargazers and people with telescopes.

Pro Camera - Adds some features to the camera. Still trying to get the hang of it. Someone explain how to use this if you have it.

FakeCarrier (JB) - Change the display name of the carrier on your phone to what you want.

Adblock (JB) - Adblock for safari. Effective.

PersistWifi (JB) - Option to switch off wifi and push notification when you put the phone to sleep.

Bump - App for iPhone to iPhone transfer of data (music, pics, etc)

Bootlogo (JB) (IS) - Change the bootlogo, Only for JB 4.2.1

ClockHide (JB) (NI) - Hides the clock on lock screen. I use it as I have kept the typophone lock screen through winterboard.

Enhanced tabs (JB) (NI) - Enhances tab behavior in safari.

FolderEnhancer (JB) (NI) - Lets you add more than 12 icons in a folder and a few more enhancements.

FreeSync (JB) (NI) - Removes the idiotic screen "Sync in progress, do not disconnect" and lets you use the iPhone normally during sync.

Polite Silencer (JB) (NI) - A good app for office, it silences the ringtone when you get a call, after the iPhone gets some movement and tilt.

SleepFX (JB) (NI) - Adds effects when you press the sleep button.

SwitcherMod (JB) (NI) - Gives you more control in regards to the app change dock. Things like hide icon label, close box style, drag up to quit etc.

I'll add a few more apps later.

Re: Dedicated iOS apps, games & themes Thread.

@Faheem seems you are enjoying reliance 3g and iphone 4 combo. :)
so any problems you faced with regards to capping of speed etc. Like some members faced?
And how is the speed in your area? Not Good as mine i suppose :P

Re: Dedicated iOS apps, games & themes Thread.

^ Till the time I had not subscribed to the plan , I was getting 1.5 Mbps . The day I subscribed to the Rs.99 / 3GB plan , my speed came down to 200-210 Kbps :P.

Re: Dedicated iOS apps, games & themes Thread.

@ggt

Please stick to the contents of the thread. General discussions about iPhone, MNP, mobile connections, 3G speeds etc can be done in their respective threads.

On Topic - I use the following apps

Games
Fruit Ninja - Awesome awesome game. Especially when you go head to head against random people from all over the world through GameCenter.
Angry Birds - Another masterpiece on the iOS.
Angry Birds Seasons
DoodleJump - Another super game. These above mentioned games are the ones which I compulsively try to get a better score on.
Cut The Rope - Perfect game to while away your time.
Infinity Blade - The epitome of graphics on iOS.
Mutant Bash TV by Rage - Short but very very good.
NFS Hot Pursuit - Fun to play, but once you finish it, there is no inclination to play it again. So its a sort of wasted money.
Fragger - Big fun in small packet. Love this physics based game.
Peggle - I had so much fun playing this game. I keep going back to it over and over when I get bored with other games.
Pocket Tanks - iOS port of the all time fun PC game. Fun to play with a partner.
Game Dev Story - Game Dev Story. 'Nuff said.

Re: Dedicated iOS apps, games & themes Thread.

@Veer Singh

Yes, I buy all my apps.

As this is the thread for iOS apps and games, I think I should add the apps list from my iPad as well.

Games

Angry Birds HD

Fruit Ninja HD - This one takes the cake in terms of awesomeness. Huge screen estate comes in handy while slicing all those fruits and GameCenter leader boards are amazing.

N.O.V.A. - Great iPad FPS. One of the better ones out there.

Infinity Blade - Again, the HD 3D graphics are simply mind blowing.

World Of Goo - Amazing physics on the huge screen.

I guess all the games look beautiful on the iPad. :)

Books, Comics, PDFs

iBooks - Simple in design.

ComicZeal 4 - My one stop shop for everything comics. Graphic novels and illustrations look fantastic on the screen. Its the ideal comic reading app for me. My one and only qualm with it is that in landscape mode the comic pages are rendered poorly and it tries to fit the page to the screen rather than blowing up the page (I don't mind scrolling a little to see the artwork in all its glory).

Video

YouTube - Does the job. :-/

Video Player - Great for iPad formatted movies and all the digital copies. Very restricted unfortunately, but then its Apple's fault and not the app's.

VLC - Made for the iPad. Plays almost everything, stutters with HD videos so I have to stick to DivX.

Re: Dedicated iOS apps, games & themes Thread.

Can anyone share an app name for maps in India ?

Tried inbuilt maps in 3G 8GB (3.1.3), But never locked position. Does 3G 8GB has inbuilt GPS or needs active GPRS connection.

Re: Dedicated iOS apps, games & themes Thread.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Air Video. That app has to be one of the best apps ever made. Install the server on your computer, and you can do seamless streaming over WiFi or 3G, (both work brilliantly well) as well as conversion to the native mp4/m4a format.

Now you might ask why one would convert videos with VLC's existence. Here's why, using 55% quality for offline conversion, the videos are half the size of your avi's or HD videos which is immensely useful for traveling or when storing massive amount of videos. When I had gone for a 2 week trip, I stored 55 hours of episodes and movies on my iPad. Oh and for the iPad I use 60%-65% quality, depending on the amount of videos.

Another app that has not been mentioned is a jailbreak app, which is Notified Pro. I hate the default iOS notifications, they are very intrusive IMO, Notified Pro overrides the alerts(if they are enabled) and instead lists it in its app(if you're using the free version) or a drop down drawer(similar to Android notifications) which makes seeing your notifications, irrespective how many of them are there, very intuitive and easy, and they're not intrusive at all.

Another Jailbreak extension that I couldn't live without is Activator, which is basically gestures on your screen at certain or all locations. It's free, give it a try and spend time customizing it, you'll find it to be very useful.

For social updates addicts, qTweeter is a great app, use Activator to trigger the drop down , and from anywhere you can post updates to Twitter & Facebook. No need to go into the respective apps, or any app for that matter.

I guess this is enough for now, if I come across more apps I'll post! :P

Re: Dedicated iOS apps, games & themes Thread.

I'm back to using BiteSMS again. Awesome app, lets you control message notifications and ringtones besides adding the ability to do a quick reply instead of going to the message app and putting the running app in background.

Now the games that I have (I apologize for the fact that the description that I have given isn't very descriptive, I've done so because I'm not a good reviewer, so it would be better for you to google for reviews)

Angry Birds - One of the best time filling that I have seen till date.

Tap Tap Revenge 4 - A decent game related to the music beats of the actual songs. They update their song collection frequently and have a good collection for that matter.

Plants vs Zombies - Again this is one great game which needs no introduction.

Pac-Man - One of the great arcade games. My highest score till now is 59000, my dad's is somewhere near 125000 :P

Cut The rope - Again a great time filler game, cute too. Girls tend to love the game, that's why I always have it :D

Infinity Blade - Amazing graphics, but frankly very repetitive and story line makes no sense after a while.

Dead space - Its on iPhone now, what else do you need...

Fifa 11 - Freak game takes 1GB of space, but its a must for football lovers.

Flight Control - A good time filler.

Froggy Jump - Also a good time pass, has a few themes which you can unlock when you reach a certain level, so sometimes you just get glued to this one.

Dungeon 2 - Something like Diablo knock off on iPhone with better graphics. Haven't played it much.

Home Run battle - Like the title says, its about hitting home runs. You can upgrade you gear which improves your chances of hitting a home run. Has option to play online, which works well with EDGE/GPRS. The multiplayer is ranked which makes this game quite addictive.

Tom Clancy's HAWX - Need I say anything else :)
I have tonnes of other games either on my iPhone or my PC, but I don't have enough time to play them frankly.
Office life has ruined all that sadly, same goes for PC games (at least 20 that I had downloaded but haven't had the time to install) and TV Shows/Movies (A backlog of around 500GB, and am still downloading 11GBs a day)

Re: Dedicated iOS apps, games & themes Thread.

Some more things I (re)installed

External iPod Controls (JB) (NI) -
Allows you to use the volume buttons to control iPod app when the phone is in sleep mode. Its a great convenience app :)

FastSnap (JB) (NI) -
Allows you to use any of the volume control buttons as a shutter button when using the camera :D

FBphotoSave (JB) (NI) -
Allows you to save the photos from the Facebook app into your iPhone's photo gallery.

iPhoneDelivery (JB) (NI) -
BiteSMS uses this to display delivery reports for each SMS.

iSocialShare (JB) (NI) -
Allows you to upload images directly from the photo album onto Facebook or Twitter.

MobileNotifier (JB) (NI) -
The notifications on the iPhone, the way they should have been in the first place.

MultiIconMover (JB) (NI) -
Move multiple icons from one screen onto another by marking them, as long as there is space for them on the target screen.

PowerPLAY (JB) (NI) - Same as external ipod controls. Don't know why I have it...

RetinaAppIcons (JB) (NI) - Changes the non retina app icons on springboard to the retina ones. (Allegedly)

VoiceActivator (JB) (NI) - Add custom voice commands. Very convenient and accurate while driving. And you don't need to record anything either.

3DBoard (JB) (NI) - Adds 3D effect to the home screen without 3D glasses. Didn't seem that great frankly.

Re: Dedicated iOS apps, games & themes Thread.

Very useful thread..!

Thanks for all the Recommendations..

Pls keep it coming.. :)

Re: Dedicated iOS apps, games & themes Thread.

Okay is there any app that automatically switches off edge/3g and switches on wifi as soon as you gwt home?? I know both SBScheduler and ischeduler can automate tasks for you and work really well but none of them have the option to turn on or off features based on your location!
