Laptops Dedicated Video card Vs 2GB Ram

hi ppl, after a long search i've decided to get Acer Aspire 5583, since it is cheap and has got good features in its price range. It is upgradable upto 4GB

Now, i'm not an avid gamer, but i do work on photoshop and some video editing software, i also use the computer to make music, reason, cubase et al. Now will the 5583 be able to handle all these?
and I'm thinking of upgrading it to 2GB(2x1GB) which should come around 6000 extra here in chennai i guess.
and the main question, will the 2GB give the same performace as a dedicated 256 MB card with 1GB memory?
i ask this question because my other choice was Dell Inspiron 1520 with 256 MB video, T5250(1.5Ghz) and 1GB RAM, but that comes around to 56k, so dropped it.

Well the Acer is around 43k, the 7300GS 5584 is around 48-49k, Add another Gig of RAM on that for total 2GB for 2200 bux a stick...

Total 51k or something, way cheaper then the similar configged Dell, also Dell has a bigger screen which can be a PITA to carry around...

See if you can manage something with the Dell Inspiron 1420 though, 8400M GS>7300GS

Oh and as for ur question dedicated vid card > 2GB ram, well both are for different needs, and as far as you have mentioned your needs you'll be more happy with 2GB RAM IMO.
 
hey thanks deepak, btw where did you hear that Acer Aspire 5584 7300GS is priced around 49k? i enquired with 3 acer dealers here in chennai, all 3 said it comes around 57k... but compareindia.com says the price is 49k...
i emailed the people in acer and they did not say anything abt the price, they just asked my number so one of their dealers could talk to me(i've already spoken to 3 of them as mentioned)... If you have a link or any info abt the price of 5584 please post it here.. thanks a lot!
 
Actually just visited an Acer Showroom at NP, Delhi...

The guy said 51k and showroom prices are always about 2k higher...

Visit your computer dealer and tell him to source the model for ya...that would be cheaper..
 
i bought myself a acer 5583 a week back and got the memory upgraded to 2Gb and i really dont repent it the GMA950 can easily handle the windows vista Aero effects and all.

ohh btw that Acer Aspire 5584 7300GS is for 57k in delhi too (i wanted to get that , but it was way too expensive :( )
 
^may i ask how much did the 2GB cost? and is that 2x1GB, please do let me know whether its a 533mhz or 667 mhz and also the brand?
and how much did the total come to?
i know thats too many questions but i'm desperate...thanks a lot!
 
ya i got myself 2 x 1 gb (for the pair to function in dual channel mode )
Brand : transcend 667 Mhz
got it for 2.2k a piece.
total was 38.5k (laptop) + 4.4k (ram sticks) = 42.9k(i still have to sell of my 512mb stick :( )
 
ok one last question.. i promise i will stop after this :)
do you have any idea abt single 2GB RAM Stick cost? i was thinking of getting a single 2GB RAM stick now and may be getting another 2GB stick next year.. so effectively making it a 4GB lappy by next year...
or will it work only if have two RAM sticks?

it will work with 2Gb single stick module but the availibility of the module is a problem . it should cost you around 5k if you can find one :)
