Delay in opening software on network server?

Help again guys. We have about 8 computers on a network. The hospital software runs on the server. Each computer has a desktop shortcut for the software. Till yesterday, I could click on it and it would open almost instantaneously. Today on a couple of computers, it takes almost a minute to open. After the software opens it works fast, but any idea why it takes so long to open? All Windows based, and mostly Win 8.1.

If I access other files on the server even from the same computers, there is no delay at all.
 
Have you configured your sever as a terminal server to run the software on client systems?
Occasional delay is acceptable and fine.
Also try to clear any juk generated by that software both on server and clients when it isnt used by any of those client machines.
 
Sorry, should have got back. Something to do with the ODBC stuff. I have no clue, but made some changes there and all is fine. Software opens instantaneously.
