Hi guys, i have a win 10 pc upgraded from 8.1(so there were 2 recovery partitions). yesterday while trying something(Keeping story short here) i foolishly reset boot menu in easy-bcd, so there was blank boot menu. Then i added default window entry in easybcd as only boot option and saved. Now pc is not booting asking to insert installation media, that i dont have readilly available.
Some info abt error shown --
File: \BCD
Status: 0xc0000098
Info: the boot configuration data file doesn't contain valid information for an operating system.

Now i have a few questions..
1. hitting f8 at startup is not giving any menu.. Why is it so, i searched and found some suggestions to use f8 and then some commands to repair.
2. If i create a usb pen drive from windows official tool will it be able to correct this problem On its own. Cause this pc is upgraded and its file s may not have same location or names as a default system(i am noob)
3. If repair fails how can i transfer my data before a new install.

I'd faced similar issue earlier and booting from a Win10 USB and choosing "repair" option (just search online for the right steps) fixed it for me. If I remember correctly I then reinstalled EasyBCD (for dual booting with Linux) to get that thing back too.

Thanks vishal for replying. Was your pc also upgraded from 8. I am asking because my pc had 2 450mb recovery partitions and 1 100 mb partition along with main c drive. So i thinkone extra partition was created when i upgraded the pc. So will regular proces willbe enough in my case too. Any ideas?

Yes I was on upgrade from Win8 when I had the issue. Nowadays I'm on fresh Win10 install on new mobo/disk and I can't remember if there were two recovery partitions at the time. Regular "boot repair" process should be good enough for you too.

I booted from win 10 usb but repair is not working. Tried some commands to repair mbr, bcd etc found somewhere, they execute without error but problem is there. Cant even reset the pc With keeping data option. It says drive is locked.
Image below is the list of partitions on hdd. Any ideas how to do it. i think i have to make one of these partitions active. Any ideas how to do it.
