Dell 24" LCD Monitor or 26" LCD TV

Hi,

I want to buy a LCD for TV viewing and Movies. But i am confused regards to whether an LCD TV is better than LCD monitor. Can i buy a LCD Monitor in place of a LCD TV? Would it make a difference?

Can i go for a Dell 24" instead of a Sony 26" LCD TV? I would be using Tata Sky for TV and normal 1.4GB avi's for movies.

Plz help me in making the correct decision.:)
 
a 26" TV may support only 720p( check the resolution of what you're buying)

a 24" monitor on the other hand will support 1080i/p since monitors have much higer resolution than TV's
 
On the other hand (just to oppose Greenhorn :D ),

a 26" TV will have bearable-looking standard TV broadcast (TataSky)

a 24" Monitor will make TV look ugly

I was gonna say that , but looking at the TV shown on 32" LCD's in public, especially grainy signals , look equally as bad. But neither will be an issue if you're gonna watch from afar.

if movies ( not from tv) > tv , then get a monitor , else go for a TV for the reason payne mentioned :)
 
If you want to watch tata sky , then stay away from dell 24 inch. I have the same monitor and while it's great for games(absolutely amazing!!) HD movies and even dvds(4 gb ones not the axxo rips you get on the net) ,tata sky looks like crap on it. Even normal cable tv on 21 inch crts look better.

While tata sky won't look grainy on it(atleast after a few tweaks), images appear kinda soft . Also dell 24 incher has a matt screen and not a glossy screen . So it won't look as good as a normal tv.
 
I'd say go for a dell 24 inch? I just got this Dell E248WFP 24 inch LCD Monitor last month, it's on sale at a deal site for $389 at that time, not sure if it's still available.The size of the monitor coupled with the amazing crispness of the display make reviewing documents and images a pleasure. so far works great, reallly like it.

What type of TV tuner card are you using, internal/external , brand ? I am also planning to get tata sky for the dell 24".

I am not using an tuner card. I just connect the set top box to the display via composite cables supplied by tata sky.
