Dell has announced the start of sales of its new notebook Inspiron 6400 with a 15.4†LCA and based on Intel Core Duo processor.

The base Inspiron 6400 model has the following specs:

* Processor: Intel Core Duo T2300 (1.66GHz)
* Chipset: Intel 945GM Express
* RAM: 512MB DDR2
* HDD: 60GB SATA
* LCD: 15.4", WXGA widescreen LCD.
* DVD/CD-RW drive
* Built-in modem/net card
* Windows® XP Home Edition SP2

Contrary to recent rumors the price for this model will be about $1400 instead of $800.

The senior Inspiron 6400 will have Intel Core Duo T2500 (2 GHz) processor, twice as much RAM (1GB, DDR2), 400 GB SATA HDD, DVD+/-RW drive, more capacious battery and WLAN (802.1a/b/g) adapter. The price for this configuration with Windows Media Center Edition 2005 will make up $2000.

Dell seems to be the first to lauch core duo notebooks in India. Going by the digit/chip mags pricelist, they are priced at 75k. IMO its better waiting than buying it right now for this price. Even saw a Samsung notebook being previewed by digit in the last month.

But 400 gig hdd :O
